Ultra Massive Black Holes (UMBHs) - the black holes which can grow upto 50 billion times the mass of the Sun are perhaps one of the most mind boggling objects ever observed in the Universe. In 2019, Scientists discovered one such black hole in a very distant galaxy in the Universe - it is the largest known black hole ever discovered. This black hole is 10,000 times more massive than the super massive black hole found in the Milky Way galaxy ! In this class we will learn more about these Ultra massive Black Holes, how do they form and the role they play in their parent galaxies.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am a PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics and have 8 years of research and teaching experience at top universities, including Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), India, University of Cambridge, UK and University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. While working as a research scientist and as an assistant professor, I have taught undergraduate and graduate students and delivered many public lectures. Using my knowledge and experience in astronomy as an educator and researcher, I have designed a series of astronomy courses catered for elementary school and middle school students. I am currently teaching one such introductory astronomy course to a group of elementary school students based in Silicon valley, USA.

Being a university topper in MS, Physics and a young scientist awardee by URSI (International Union of Radio Sciences) I always strive for educational excellence. I am constantly trying to create a informative and engaging learning environment for my students. Nothing pleases me more than seeing students getting excited and amazed to learn about the mysteries of universe. Nurturing interest in astronomy at a very young age in kids can provide them a lifetime of delight, a sense of wonder at the universe and a lifelong hobby and/or a career as an astronomer.

I love travelling. While working as an astronomer, I have travelled extensively to different astronomical observatories around the world. Looking at the night sky in some of the darkest places in the world provides me an overwhelming sense of joy ! I currently live in Silicon valley, US with my husband and two kids, a third grader and a kindergartener.
