Experiencia de clase

Each week we will target different Spanish vocabulary groups through playdough creation and play. The teacher will direct the learners to create a certain kind of creation each class meeting, while leaving room for creativity (for instance, what kind of animal or what breakfast foods each learner will make), and some of the vocabulary we practice will depend on their creative choices.

Week of August 8 - Challenge: Make a tree - Vocabulary: names of tree parts and nature vocabulary

Week of August 15 - Challenge: Make breakfast - Vocabulary: foods and eating verbs

Week of August 22 - Challenge: Make an ocean creature - Vocabulary: animal names, body parts and colors

Week of August 29 - Challenge: Make a house - Vocabulary: parts of house and colors

Week of September 5 - Challenge: Make a family - Vocabulary: family members

Week of September 12 - Challenge: Make lunch - Vocabulary: Foods and eating verbs (Monday section will be on BREAK Sept. 13.)

Week of September 19 - Challenge: Make a playground - Vocabulary: things at the playground, movement verbs

Week of September 26 - Challenge: Make a land animal - Vocabulary: animal vocabulary and body parts

Week of October 3 - Challenge: Make a vehicle - Vocabulary: vehicles and their parts

Week of October 10 - Challenge: Make an insect - Vocabulary: insect names and body parts

Week of October 17 - Challenge: Make lunch - Vocabulary: Foods and eating verbs (Saturday section will be on BREAK Oct. 23.)

Week of October 24 - Make a nocturnal animal - Vocabulary animal names and parts

Week of October 31 - Make a castle - Vocabulary: Castles and people in them

Week of November 7 - Make dinner - Vocabulary food names and eating verbs

After each class meeting, I will provide either a brief list of vocabulary words and phrases we used during our class time for learners to continue to review or a page of class notes. I often provide worksheets for further practice as well.

Please bring playdough (any color and type). Some weeks we will use cylindrical playdough containers (or similar) to give structure to our creations. Playdough tools are optional. It is very helpful if the learner's camera is angled so that I can see what they are creating on the table and see them at the same time. That way we can talk about their creations more easily as they make them, and it is easier for them to share about them.

Each week is a separate challenge that does not build on the previous week. Learners may join at any time.

- Modeling dough, such as Play-Doh. Feel free to bring either homemade or store-bought dough. While one jar is fine, a variety of colors is fantastic if available.

- Modeling dough tools are also a great addition.
