This moot court experience will allow learners to apply their knowledge of the Supreme Court landmark cases to a fictitious case. Learners will work on teams of either lawyers or Supreme Court justices to try a case involving Constitutional issues that must be resolved by the Court. Learners will be provided the facts of the case as well as the relevant case law and precedent cases which have come before the Supreme Court on the issue previously. Together with their team, guided by the teacher, the lawyers will plead their case before a bench of Justices who engage in questioning the lawyers and finally determining how the case should be decided. The first week will involve an introduction to the Supreme Court and the facts of the case. Learners will meet with their legal teams and begin to build their arguments and questions. During the Second Week Legal Briefs will be written and handed in and the crafting of legal arguments will be learned and understood. The following three weeks will involve the Trial, the Decision and wrap up session to debrief and comprehend the legal issues. Prior understanding of the working of the Supreme Court is useful as is the interest in participating within a team to role play as a lawyer or judge and a willingness to engage on the issues and participate in the moot court.
