Thanks for wanting to know more! For this course, there is no experience necessary. A keyboard may be helpful, but also not necessary.

Students will be taught the basics of music theory that pertain to playing the piano. Concepts will include, but are not limited to, geography of the keyboard, note types, the musical alphabet, time signature, and more.

I will explain and demonstrate the various music theory concepts using various tools such as the whiteboard, the keyboard, and prompting questions that students may volunteer to participate.

In general, my teaching style is based around each learner's style(s). Also, class participation is encouraged through various forms. These may range from speaking, drawing, using hand movements, or using emoticons; whichever the student is most comfortable. The following are general guidelines for topics to be covered each week.

IMPORTANT NOTES: First, this course is NOT for learning how to play music on the piano. It is for MUSIC THEORY which teaches basic concepts about different aspects of music. It may lightly touch on areas where learning how to play the piano at the same time would be helpful.

Second, please review the dates carefully before enrolling in this course as there are no make-ups for any classes missed. However, the student is encouraged to watch the recorded sessions to "catch up" with any missed live lessons.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will improve their understanding of music theory including geography of the piano, types of notes, pitch, dynamics, the musical alphabet, intervals, and rests.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I started taking piano lessons when I was just six (6) years old. I studied at Settlement Music School in Abington, Pa. and was trained in classical piano, but have branched out and enjoy playing all kinds of music. A graduate of La Salle University, I come from a musical family, where instruments lay scattered around the living room, and in the evenings each person might pick up anything for a spontaneous "jam."

I have been giving lessons to both children and adults for many years. I love to allow the interests and needs of my student(s) to guide the repertoire and areas of study. I enjoy encouraging others, being a part of their evolution, and helping people go further than they thought they could go.

More than anything for my students, I want to get them to a place where they want to keep learning and growing and spread the "bug" for music with those around them. My goal, as a teacher, is that lessons should encourage not just good form and practice, but also, the fundamental love and enjoyment of the process. I believe that all kinds of art - music, visual, written, etc.- relieves stress and that art is a way to heal and grow as a person.

I enjoy playing music and leading sing-a-longs for senior citizens, painting, and occasionally creating murals within my community. I enjoy gardening, the beach, and generally spending time and moving around outside.
