Minecraft builders will come together in this challenge-style course that will ignite their imaginations and give them the opportunity to collaborate and build with other Minecraft enthusiasts. **Build challenges updated as of July 2021** *Minecraft Bedrock edition is required for this course. Java edition is NOT supported* Our first class will consist of introductions among students and fun icebreakers to allow students to get to know one another. We will discuss each learner’s background and experience with Minecraft and each student will have the opportunity to share stories, builds, or tips/ tricks that they have discovered while playing Minecraft. As this is an interactive class where students will have the opportunity to work in pairs and/ or groups, laying a foundation that allows each learner to feel comfortable and open with one another will assist them when working together in the upcoming weeks. Consecutive classes will begin with a brief check-in among students followed by a teacher-led discussion based on the theme for the week. Visual aids such as slideshows, short video clips, and virtual field trips will be used to spark each learner’s imagination and give them examples and ideas to implement into their own builds. Class will conclude with each student sharing their custom build to the class, complete with a walk-through and tour. *MINECRAFT BEDROCK EDITION IS REQUIRED FOR THIS COURSE. Java Edition is NOT supported* Our weekly class schedule: Week 1 Day one: Laying the foundation - Introductions, sharing worlds and builds, Minecraft-based conversations and games led by the teacher. This will be a socially based meeting before we jump into our weekly build challenges. We will also spend time making sure everyone is able to join our class world (BEDROCK) for our next meeting. Day two: Mini build - Pixel art - Let’s get those building skills up and running! Students will begin class with a discussion sharing their favorite character. Whether it’s a character from a book, a tv show, a video game, or a movie, students will recreate their chosen character Minecraft-style complete with an accompanying scene. Each student will be given time at the end of class to show off their completed set. Week 2 Treehouses - Who doesn’t love a good treehouse? After viewing examples and ideas, students will begin designing their own treehouse. We will discuss various elements that make each treehouse unique to help each student construct their own. Week 3 Hop Aboard! - This week we’re headed to the water. Students will be challenged to build a ship of their choice. Whether it’s a dark pirate ship, a luxurious yacht, or a massive cruise ship, students will show off their building skills with this ocean themed build. Week 4 Maze, Obstacle, or Parkour? - This one is SO much fun. Seriously!! Builders will choose between a parkour run, obstacle course, or maze (or combine all 3!) to put their classmates to the ultimate test. I will have some inspiration photos to show the students at the beginning of class to spark their imaginations and by the end of the second class of week 4, students will be running through their classmates builds trying to survive lava parkour jumps, slide through ice blocks without falling into the abyss, or making their way through a dead-end maze before the mobs get to them. Who will succeed and who will fail? Week 5 Build a working rollercoaster - Sharp turns over a cliff, sudden drops, or underground tracks - what will our learners bring to the table this week? After watching a slideshow and short videos with various rollercoaster examples, students will design and construct a working rollercoaster. Students will be challenged to make their rollercoasters as exciting, thrilling, or out-of-this-world as possible while making sure their rollercoasters can run its entire track start to finish with no obstructions. Classmates will be able to visit each track and go for a virtual ride at the end of class. Week 6 Futuristic - What do you imagine life might look like in 100 years? 200 years? Will we have flying cars? Will cars even still exist? What will houses look like or even the cities we once knew? The options are limitless this week with this futuristic themed build challenge! At the beginning of class, inspiration photos of futuristic buildings and vehicles will be shown before students are set off to start on their own builds. Week 7 Secret Base - It’s no secret that in Minecraft you NEED to protect your resources! What better way to do that than with a secret base? Will students choose to build an underground base or a hidden base with secret doors within an existing house or mountainside? Let’s see what these master builders wow us with this week with this secret base challenge. Week 8 Castle - What makes a castle a castle, aside from its impressive size? I will present a slideshow of Minecraft castle examples before the class takes a virtual field trip of a real-life castle that is still standing today. As a group, we will discuss what elements are commonly found on castle grounds (moats, beautiful gardens, drawbridges, archer towers, etc.) to help spark ideas. Time will be dedicated at the end of class for students to host tours of their castles to their fellow classmates. Week 9 Movie theater - Seriously, is there anything more delicious than movie theater popcorn? I think not. In our final build week, students will build their very own movie theaters. Various example photos will be shown and students can choose to build a movie theater room complete with a movie screen, a movie theater lobby with concession stand, or the entire movie theater itself! Just don’t forget my fave - the popcorn. Week 10 Goodbye party - All good things must come to an end. This week we will discuss and revisit some of our favorite builds from the previous weeks. Students will be able to hang out, chat, and reminisce about our time together. Day one: Mini build - Working carnival or arcade game - Hit the bullseye, skeeball, toss the ball… what carnival or arcade game can you recreate in Minecraft? Here’s the tricky part - it actually has to work! Day two: Mini build - Automatic fireworks show - To celebrate our time together, students will build their own line of fireworks that can be set off at the flick of a switch or push of a button. At the end of class, I will switch the Minecraft time to “night” as we have our very own massive fireworks show together. Due to the collaborative nature of this course, class may occasionally run over the dedicated 60 minutes. I will adjust my instruction to best fit our set time, however students may need extra class time to finish their builds and share with their classmates.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hi, Outschool families!
I am a former private school teacher who, like many others, was pushed online in March 2020. Although virtual teaching was much, much different than being in my K-2nd classroom, I instantly fell in love with the flexibility virtual teaching offered. Not only did I get to continue to see my sweet private school kiddos online, I was opened up to students from other campuses and grew very strong bonds with all of my virtual students.
Whether in-person or online, I always strive to create a relaxing yet fun classroom environment. I believe now more than ever it is important for kiddos to feel comfortable and happy in this new virtual world.
When I’m not teaching, I’m spending time with my best friend, my 10-year old son. By day we are laid-back homeschoolers. By night, we are world-class tv watchers.
My dream is to move to a big spread of land in Idaho or Montana where I will rescue as many animals as I possibly can. Until then, I reside in sunny Southern California with my incredible husband, our 10 year old son, and our beautiful German Shepherd.
I look forward to seeing your learners in class!
