1 reunión en vivo
50 minutos horas presencialesTarea
1 hora por semana. Students will be given practice problems that they can use to practice their new skills after class. The problems will be in a Google Form, so feedback will be immediate. The homework is not mandatory. It is merely available for students that would like additional practice problems.Evaluación
Students will receive a quick multiple choice assessment at the end of the class. It will be completed before the game, which is the final activity.Experiencia de clase

Would your child think becoming a human calcular is incredibly cool and FUN? If yes, what are you waiting for? Perfect for grades 5-8, this class is more than just a math lesson; it's a game-changer. Enroll your child today and watch them transform into a math whiz, ready to take on any challenge with enthusiasm and skill! Imagine your child solving challenging math problems with ease and confidence, impressing their teachers, and boosting their self-esteem. They will be guided through four unique strategies that make multi-digit multiplication not just manageable, but incredibly entertaining! What will be taught? Students will learn multiplication strategies that will help them solve multi-digit multiplication problems MUCH easier and FASTER than the traditional standard algorithm for multiplication. The mental math strategies are rooted in Vedic Math methods. What topics will you cover? Students will learn how to multiply the following types of problems quickly: 1) Two-digit by two-digit numbers with the same number in the tens place and the sum of the numbers in the ones place equaling ten. (Ex. 73 x 77) 2) Two-digit by two-digit numbers that are less than 100 (Ex. 88 x 92) 3) Three-digit by three digit numbers (Ex. 112 x 103) 4.) Three-digit by two-digit numbers when one number is more than 100 and the other number is less than 100 (Ex. 106 x 94) How is your class structured? We will start with a quick warm-up activity. (Mental math problems) Class will then shift to a review of multiplication using the standard algorithm. Both of these activities will take about 10 minutes combined of class time. The core of material of the class will then begin with one multiplication strategy introduced and taught at a time. There will be approximately 15 minutes of practice time for each strategy. The class will end with a short quiz covering the four multiplication strategies taught. For extra challenge, students will be asked to make up their own problems to solve. How will you teach? We will meet via Zoom. Students will join a Nearpod, which allows students to write on slides and share their work with me in real time. This maximizes participation and enables me to provide immediate feedback. I will model the problems using my a Wacom Note tablet, so I can write directly on prepared slides. The slides are black, and I write in fun colors. I will model a few problems and then release students to try practice problems on their own. Students will have the option of timing themselves with a built in timer on each practice slide. Class will end with a quick multiple-choice quiz and a game (Time to Climb in Nearpod). Class Structure: 1)Sign into Nearpod during introductions and attendance, 2) Complete Warm-Up problems, 3) Mini-Lesson broken up into four sections-one for each strategy taught, 4) Practice Problems, 5) Quiz/Exit Ticket, 6) Game. What is your teaching style? I prefer to demonstrate concepts to students through multimedia presentations, technology, and experiments. When teaching online, I combine lectures with visuals. The AIG teacher in me loves to encourage independent thought and self-learning through hands-on activities. I like to ask questions instead of giving answers. I tend to be very upbeat and high energy. I aim to create a safe space for learning and build student confidence. How much will learners get to interact with you and each other (mention specifics like: lecture, games, slides, video clips, discussion)? Students may unmute at appropriate times during class to ask questions. They may also ask questions via the chat box. Students will be encouraged to work together and share their thinking with the group. The class will include lecture, slides, scaffolded practice problems including visual guides and audio clips on interactive slides, a quiz, a game, and practice problems students may complete independently after class to continue their learning.
Otros detalles
Necesidades de aprendizaje
This is a great class for advanced and gifted students that enjoy mental math and learning different ways to solve problems. The lesson is fast paced, challenging, and encourages critical thinking.
Orientación para padres
Students don't need a Nearpod account to join a lesson. A five-letter code will be shared with students at the beginning of class. Students can then join the lesson by going to nearpod.com/student or opening the app on their Android or iOS device and entering the code. Nearpod is an Outschool approved third-party tool.
Requisitos previos
Students will need to know their multiplication facts, 0-12, before taking this class. Students should already know how to multiply multi-digit numbers by multi-digit numbers.
