In this weekly lecture-based course, learners will be introduced to many representatives of the major groups of primates. In each week's slideshow, learners will get to watch entertaining and enlightening video clips as well as see pictures of adorable, fascinating, and downright weird primate species! Learners will also get to see how these animals are related to one another and how they are related to us. In the final two lessons, learners will marvel at how human-like the apes are. Throughout each presentation, learners are welcome to ask questions, but this will not be a discussion-oriented course. Students will learn about each animal's diet, size, lifespan, social structure, and any special or unique adaptations. Please note that extinct primate species and early human species will not be covered. Course breakdown: Week 1: Prosimians -- Lemurs, bush babies, lorises, and more! Week 2: New World Monkeys -- Monkeys of the Americas. Week 3: Old World Monkeys -- Monkeys of Asia and Africa. Week 4: Apes Part 1 -- Gibbons and orangutans. Week 5: Apes Part 2 -- Gorillas, chimpanzees, and bonobos.

Orientación para padres
Many primate species are threatened or endangered. We will discuss the threats that each of these animals are facing. Some students may find this kind of discussion disturbing. However, there will be no graphic images or detailed descriptions of animal deaths, and learners will not be made to feel guilty or responsible for these problems.
Please understand that this class will feature discussion of evolution, and that for the purposes of this class, humans are considered a great ape species closely related to other apes. This will be treated as scientific fact and religion will not be mentioned at all in this class.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am pleased to be teaching with Outschool! I teach classes about ecology, life science, and animals, as well as English writing and grammar/syntax!
I have a varied background. I hold a BA in anthropology and I am also a licensed veterinary technician--that's a nurse for animals.
I believe that learning should be fun, but that education comes first. If my students do not learn, then I have not done my job. I do not need students to memorize all the fancy terms and every fact, but I want them to learn and understand concepts that will enrich their experiences in school and in life.
I am an animal person of course. I live with my husband as well as two ferrets, two kitties, and a crested gecko. We all get along great!
