This is a preparatory course for students who will be pursuing a career in healthcare. The students will build a basic foundation of medical terminology. By having this knowledge, the student can figure out the meaning of medical terms and demystify them. Which will allow them to speak the standardized language of medicine. This course will help students recognize commonly used medical terminology by looking at the word root, prefixes, and suffixes. In addition, we will also discuss the anatomical position and its importance; directional terminology (that healthcare workers use when performing diagnostic procedures and surgery); and lastly, learn about the quadrants and regions of the abdominopelvic cavity. This is an interactive class where we will discuss medical scenarios and play games like pictionary.
Metas de aprendizaje
The student will begin to recognize the commonly used medical vocabulary, by getting familiar with the word root, prefixes, and suffixes. In addition, the learner will understand the directional terms when describing organ locations.

Classwork:
The science courses that will be taught are rudimentary, which means the student is not required to have prior science/biological knowledge. These classes are for any child who wants to take the scientific approach to understand the world around them.
The medical classes are geared towards students who are planning on pursuing a career in medicine (e.g., Physician, Physician Associate/Physician Assistant (PA), Nurse Practitioner, Nurse, etc.). My classes are introductory, meaning we are laying the ground for a strong foundation for those interested in medicine. These classes are a perfect way to understand and learn the basics, which will help the student succeed in future medical-related courses.
Teaching Experience:
I have more than eight years of experience as a science tutor and four years of experience as a university teacher assistant (TA). I am a firm believer that education should not be "one size fits all", and as such, I implement different teaching strategies. I try to make my lesson fun and interactive so that student is attentive and learning. I regale my students by telling stories and talking about relevant personal experiences. I like to incorporate summary and review questions at the end of the session to evaluate the comprehension level of the students based on the material that was taught.
As a teacher, I aim to equip my students with skills and methods that can be utilized for real-world applications. These skills include problem-solving, communication, critical thinking, study skills, and more. These skills will help prepare your child to successfully achieve his or her goals both inside and outside of school.
My Background:
As a child, I was always interested in science, especially the way in which our bodies function. And it was due to this curiosity that I pursued a Bachelor's in Medical Biology and then a Master's in Public Health. I worked as a genetic researcher for three years, and my job entailed understanding/discovering the cellular and molecular relationships between a particular gene. Specifically, my role was to find out if this gene caused an immune response. Currently, I am conducting research on pain management by using photon therapy.
About Me:
I love trying different food and traveling. I usually split my time between two cities, New York and Montreal. I have a strong affinity for those cities because that's where I was raised. If I am not working in the lab or teaching, I like to play video games, watch movies, and read novels/manga.
