Do you get confused by the > < = symbols? Not anymore! In this class students will be able to identify the greater than, less than, and equal to symbols as well as define inequality and equation. The learner will use lego blocks as a kinesthetic tool to model the math concepts. This will make the learning of the concepts and vocabulary more concrete. The teacher will begin the class by defining the math vocabulary using the lego blocks to model. Once the vocabulary is defined, the teacher will work with the learners on modeling inequalities and equations of their own. During this time, the teacher will work with the students on correct use of the vocabulary and symbols. Prior to this class, students will need to be able to count to 50. They will need to be able to match a quantity with the number that it represents up to the number 50. If your child is familiar with inequalities and equations or the <, >, = symbols then I would recommend them choosing the part 2 (Inequalities with Addition) or part 3 (Inequalities with Addition and Subtraction) sections of this class. This class will be a more basic intro of the concepts to solidify the correct names of the symbols and how to use them correctly when modeling inequalities and equations. The materials needed for this class are 25 lego blocks (the medium cube blocks are preferred, but the small cube blocks will work), three notecards (or small pieces of paper), and a writing utensil (marker or crayon are preferred).

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Math is one of my favorite subjects to teach! As a former 5th grade teacher, I became passionate about students learning the proper vocabulary and using a concrete approach to mathematics to solidify learning. Math is a subject that builds on previous learning and a strong foundation of early concepts is a must for understanding concepts at the higher levels.
