This a fun and well-paced math club for learners to explore strategies, consolidate understanding, learn new concepts and clarify understanding. Learners will work through a selection of math problems targeted at Grade 4 / Year 5. This is an ongoing class which is fun and the aim is that children feel that they are making progress. We will study topics from number and their properties to fractions, decimals and percentages to measurement to solving problems. My aim is to encourage alongside math skill, the confidence to clarify understanding, how to express challenge and to learn mathematical vocabulary and apply it to their understanding and expression. I am a qualified primary school / elementary school teacher with many years of experience. I will model concepts and topics for students and work will be differentiated for students. After class there will be homework and I encourage interaction in the classroom where children can choose further questions to try and submit. Problems will be broken down step by step and my aim is to ensure children are on the road to demonstrating mastery in math. June 20th - Week 1 - Place Value and Expanded form with whole numbers. Place value / expanded form is a way to write a particular number and shows the values that make up each part of a given number. When using expanded form in this lesson, children will be revising the place value chart and moving on to separating numbers into their parts, showing them in their expanded form. For example: 7543 = 7000 + 500 + 40 + 3. (thousands / hundreds / tens / units or ones) June 27th - Week 2 - Addition July 4th - Week 3 - Subtraction July 11th - Week 4 - Multiplication Tables July 18th - Week 5 - Multiplication July 22nd - Week 6 - Division July 29th - Week 7 - Fractions August 8th - Week 8 - Equivalent Fractions August 15th - Week 9 - Ordering Fractions August 22nd - Week 10 - Improper Fractions August 29th - Week 11 - Decimal fractions More topics to come including - More about fractions and decimals, solving problems such as real-life math problems, shape and space, capacity and measurement.

I have been teaching in primary / elementary schools for many years. I am an experienced classroom primary / elementary school teacher and head of year. I have taught in London, North Africa and the Middle East and am now based in the U.S. With a wealth of experience, I enjoy helping children progress in their academic journey. I pride myself on ensuring that the materials are educational and engaging and that children leave the lesson knowing more than when they started. Progression in mathematics and moving forward with confidence is my key aim. I encourage children to clarify understanding and to develop the language and thinking tools to do this with confidence. I have also completed many training courses to help children become better writers, readers, speakers and mathematicians. I am looking forward to you joining me!
