It's no surprise that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is Nintendo's best selling game for the Nintendo Switch. This timeless series has had my appreciation since the days of Mario Kart 64 when I was a kid myself! Now, with the technology available to us, we can play Mario Kart together online with up to 12 players. 🎉

In this ongoing social club, learners will meet weekly to participate in some friendly Mario Kart competition as we play through the wide selection of courses the game has to offer. I will host a lobby for learners to join me and then we will collectively decide what game modes/courses we will play throughout the meeting. Note that when playing online, you can have up to two players play from the same Nintendo Switch console! This means siblings or friends are welcome to play together.

While there certainly is skill involved in maneuvering around the various obstacles in each course, there is also an element of chance based on what items the other players will pick up throughout a race. In other words, winning a race is never guaranteed. Part of what makes Mario Kart so fun is the possibility that a player can go from first to last or vice versa in a matter of seconds. Knowing this, learners should always do their best to maintain a positive attitude throughout class, being respectful of others whether they win or lose. 

REQUIRED MATERIALS:
- A Nintendo Switch or Switch Lite
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- A subscription to Nintendo Switch Online
- A stable (ideally high-speed) Internet connection

INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOW TO JOIN A FRIEND'S LOBBY:
Before following these steps, please make sure to add me as a friend on the account you will be playing on. This will be the account that has an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription. To do this, select the appropriate avatar in the top left corner of the Switch's home menu. From there, you can scroll down and you will see "Add Friend." Go over to the right and scroll down to "Search with Friend Code." Type in my friend code which I will provide in the online classroom here on Outschool, and voilà!

1. From Mario Kart's main menu, select "Online Play (1p / 2p)"
(Select 2p if you have two players playing from the same console)
2. Scroll down and select "Friends"
3. Once you have me added, you can select my name (Vaughn)
4. Hit join!
