Manejo de ecuaciones de uno y dos pasos: Dirigido por el profesor de secundaria

I have been a teacher for 10 years, and a tutor for 10+ years prior to that.  In my teaching career, I have taught junior high math for a total of 6 years, and high school math for a total of 2 years.

I am currently teaching 7th grade math and these skills in a public school classroom on a daily basis to a class of 14 students.  I scaffold their learning by teaching the skill a few different ways for different learning styles, and I differentiate student learning by using manipulatives, notes, and step-by-step written and verbal instruction, as well as knowledge checks for understanding periodically through the lesson.  I ask for active participation in practice and in questions, so I can clearly see at what level each student is performing and where my efforts should be directed.

Within junior high math, in the Indiana standards, one-step equations and two-step equations are a big skill students need to master just prior to leading into Algebra.  It is a skill that begins with pre-algebra ideas in 6th grade and is the foundational skill that will stair-step on and expand into to the main skills in all the higher math courses from Algebra to Geometry to Algebra II.  

As I stated, I taught junior high math for 6 years, so I'm very familiar with the confusions involved and the most common mistakes students make while learning to solve one- and two-step equations.  I break down the process into manageable steps, give them visuals to help them remember the steps, and show them ways to check their work.  I also focus on activating prior knowledge, bringing their attention to PEMDAS to recall in what order we solve equations.
