1-2 horas por semana. Although all the activities are optional, participation in the weekly activities is key to getting the most out of this class. Each week, students will be given a creative project and journal prompts. Students can also comment on two other projects each week. Learners will be completing activities individually, but there will be optional games each week to connect with their classmates. There will be no assigned grades, but constructive feedback from the instructor will be given on each project. Students can spend as much or as little time on the prompts, projects, and activities as they would like. It is anticipated that they will continue to build upon their happiness journals and use the learned techniques even after the class if over. I also encourage students to tell their families what they learn.Experiencia de clase
This class is a asychronos, self-paced class, and it is expected to take 1-2 hours per week and lasts for 4 weeks, but students can spend more or less time depending on how much time they decide to spend on the activities and projects. All of the activities are optional, so students can work on according to how much time they want/have. The purpose of this class is to teach different techniques to cope with emotions like anger, sadness, anxiety, etc, and to help kids remember the techniques after they finish the class. The flex format works well for this class, as it allows students to work at their own pace, providing more time for introspection, creativity, and understanding their own emotions on their own timetable. Each of the four weeks, we will cover a different topic to improve our mental wellness and emotions. Weekly topics are centered on evidence-based practices to help children cope with their emotions. Each Monday, a new, pre-recorded video will be posted. In each video, I will be doing a short lesson about the theme of the week. I will also post four prompts based on the week's theme, the outline for the creative project of the week, a video to go along with the creative project, and an optional activity or game for students to connect with each other. Each week, students will be doing a creative project based on the weekly theme (song, poem, art, dance, video, sculpture, etc). Students are required to upload a picture and/or a video of their creative project each week by the end of the week. Learners can complete each activity according to their schedule, but all activities must be done before the next Monday. Students can comment on other projects about what they liked and differences/similarities to their own projects. Students will be encouraged to make or use a "happiness" journal to record their thoughts. Students will be able to use their journal as a tool to remember the techniques they learn to cope with their emotions, and will be able to add onto the journal after the class is over. Week 1: Identifying Emotions On the first Monday, I will introduce myself through a pre-recorded video, and students will upload a short introduction video of their own during the week so students can learn more about each other and connect with their classmates. The pre-recorded lesson will be on how to identify different emotions and how to use a happiness journal. Along with the videos, I will post the description for the creative project, a fun worksheet on recognizing emotions, and the journal prompts. Week 2: Mindfulness This week's pre-recorded video lesson will focus on mindfulness techniques and explaining what mindfulness is. The creative project will be centered on being mindful. A mindfulness scavenger hunt game that students can play and connect with each other on the classroom page will also be included. Week 3: Gratitude The lesson this week will be on the science behind gratitude and how it impacts our mental wellness. We will discuss how gratitude can play a role in coping with our emotions. The information for the weekly creative project and prompts will be given, along with an interactive, learner to learner activity emphasizing gratitude. Week 4: Self-Esteem The final week's lesson will be all about Self-Esteem. We will learn to define self-esteem and recognize ways we can develop healthy habits for self-love. This week also features a game that students can play with their classmates to recognize their strengths and connect with each other. This class requires some writing, so students with limited writing/typing skills can draw, talk in a video, or dictate to their parents instead. Students do not need any prior experience or knowledge to participate in this class, but they will need paper (or a journal) and writing utensils (pens, pencils, markers, etc.) to write/color with, and any supplies that they need for their creative projects. When students complete this class, they will have more tools to be able to cope with their strong emotions.
Metas de aprendizaje
The goal of the class is to learn different ways to cope with emotions through four different weekly themes: recognizing emotions, mindfulness, gratitude, and self-esteem. Students will use creativity to learn about each topic. Students will also create and learn how to use a happiness journal that students can continue to use after the completion of the class. This journal can be a tool to manage anger, stress, sadness, anxiety, etc.

Orientación para padres
This class is focused on emotions, so other students may share uncomfortable experiences about their emotions. However, the purpose of this class is to focus on coping techniques for emotions rather than the emotion, so the projects and discussions will be more focused on the techniques to help emotions rather than stories or experiences about the emotion. The class is intended to be a safe space, so students will never be forced or persuaded to share personal experiences, or anything that may make them feel uncomfortable. Additionally, the instructor will work to ensure that no students become uncomfortable because of any content shared by other students. Since this class is not live, the flex design of this class makes the sharing content more limited, so it is easier to filter/monitor for materials that could be sensitive for other students. I work as a mental health counselor in an elementary school, so I have had many experiences with kids talking about their big and small emotions in group or individual settings. If there is a student who talks about something that could be sensitive, I will validate their emotion, and help guide the discussion or activity to the coping techniques, so the class does not focus on the experience or story.
Lista de útiles escolares
Students will need a journal (journal, notebook, homemade journal with folded paper and staples, etc) or paper to write on. Students will also need a pen or pencil and things to color pictures with (crayons, colored pencils, or markers). Students can use things like stickers or stamps to decorate their journals or use in their projects if they want, but it is not required. Students will also need materials for their creative projects, but the students choose what they are going to do for their project (poem, video, colored picture, sculpture, etc), so materials will vary with different students.
