During this class, students will learn tools that can help them “Speak Up” for a fun reason: to help make new friends, meet new people and join in on conversations! Students will learn how and when to join a group conversation and what to do or say once they have joined a group. I will guide students with tools that they can use in social situations that will help increase their social and self-confidence. We will look at examples of conversation starters, and discuss the efficiency of asking questions to help keep a conversation going. We will learn the difference between open-ended questions and closed questions. We will also identify ways to look for opportunities to be included in a group. To facilitate learning and student interaction, we will look at pictures, read short stories and share possible dialogue among characters in the story. Students will also learn about the famous detective "Sherlock Holmes" and some of the clever skills he used to start conversations and gather information! To conclude this class, we will talk about the use of “Kind Listening”, and the importance of body language and tone of voice to convey confidence when engaged in conversations! ***Feel free to check out my "Ongoing" Social Skills class for ages 8-12, we meet once a week and students can enroll/withdraw at any week. My Educational Background:
⭐️Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University.
⭐️I am a certified Group Facilitator.
⭐️Graduate Certificate in Autism and Behavioral Science from George Brown College.
My journey in teaching and working with children started in the classroom in 2010 as an instructor for elementary and middle school-age children. After acquiring certification in Behavior Science, I started working as a Registered Behavior Therapist providing one-to-one instruction and group instruction to children and young teens on the Autism Spectrum. I fell in love with teaching social development skills programs!
I believe that every learner is unique, and I feel honored and immensely privileged to be part of each child's learning journey.
