Read with us as the Magic Tree House whisks Jack and Annie all the way to the frozen Arctic! Will they be able to solve the riddle before they get iced themselves?

In each class, we will be reading and discussing the story "Polar Bears Past Bedtime." We will go over vocabulary words and complete an activity in class, and there will be comprehension homework after each class. We will read the chapters together in class. Before each class I will ask for volunteers to read and I will write those names down. Every single student who wants to read will have a chance to read out loud. I will not call on children who are not comfortable reading, but I will encourage the students to have their name on my read-a-loud list. If there are no students who feel comfortable reading, I will read the chapter.

This class provides a good opportunity for students to continue to practice reading out loud and discussing a book in a small group. It also gives them a chance to practice reading a chapter book and practice reading fluency.

At the end of the book, students will make a poster or similar project to share what they have learned and enjoyed. An example of a book project is in the classroom materials, along with the reading journal and a special (optional) "challenge" activity. I would recommend finding a small group of friends to take this class together so that they can discuss the book outside of class.

Orientación para padres
We will discuss that this text is fictional and review the term "fiction" throughout the story. There is a seal hunter in the story who helps Jack and Annie. Students will have a safe place to discuss this topic and how the hunter helped Jack and Annie.

I have been teaching for over 13 years. I have a Master of Education with a Concentration in Reading. I love book clubs and watching/listening as students read out loud to each other. I am so excited to watch as the children improve their love of reading, reading fluency, and comprehension skills. I love to see creativity in book projects that students create.
