You and your friends decide to go backpacking in the woods. You all have your gear packed, a map, and a compass. You feel very prepared for a fun weekend ahead. But, what was supposed to be an adventure in the woods has turned into a nightmare. Can you survive the dangers lurking in the woods? Can you find food, water, and shelter? Can you make it back home? Are you up for the challenge?

In each lesson, students will hear about the adventure, read a diary entry together to set up the background for their STEM challenge, and complete a STEM challenge. They will follow the six step Engineering Design Process: Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Experiment, and Improve. Students plan, design, and execute their own ideas. After they have completed their activity and tested their creation, there is time for reflection on what worked and what didn't.

There are materials that will be needed for each lesson in order for your child to be successful and able to complete the STEM challenge. Those are listed below and will be reminded of during the class. Most items are basic household materials. Also, your child will need a working space and the camera will need to be angled so that it can be seen.

No prior knowledge with STEM is required. Join us as we put our minds to the test in order to survive the desert island and make it back home to our family!

Hello, my name is Cheyenne. I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, with an emphasis in Reading for grades K-12. I have been a teacher for over 6 years. I have taught grades 1-3, Gifted and Talented, and ESL. I am passionate about teaching and learning and I can’t wait to share my passions with your child!

I offer mainly Reading, STEM/ STEAM/ STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Math), and PBL (Project- Based Learning) classes. I take a cross-curricular approach to teaching so that students can see how all subjects are related to one another. I am also more of a facilitator in the classroom. I believe that students learn best by doing. They need hands-on experiences to think critically and find a deeper meaning in their learning. Students should have many opportunities to work with their peers and learn from them as well. I provide resources, monitor progress, and encourage children to problem-solve. I like for children to think “outside the box”, be actively involved in their learning, think for themselves, and apply their learning to real-life situations. In our classes, we will take risks, create, evaluate, and embrace mistakes as learning opportunities! We will have a lot of fun together!

I enjoy cooking, baking, doing make-up tutorials, writing, and talking/learning about animals, Disney, and Harry Potter. I would like to teach courses on these topics in the future! I have two kids. My son is 2 years old and my step-daughter is 7 years old. I love spending time with my family, being outdoors, and traveling.
