Casting on and e-wrap is the most basic skill, so we will practice this until learners wish to progress to purl stitch. I will have several projects on different looms, so I can, at any time, talk through different stitches for different projects on different looms. One learner may be working on a hat in e-wrap (knit) only stitch but another may be doing a rib mitten and another a cable cowl. I have a visualiser so I can show all techniques at any time as per learner request. We may end with sharing of goals or an online quiz related to textiles or knitting. How will I teach: I will teacher using my visualiser, showing learners how to complete each type of stitch and invite them to copy and consolidate the skill until they can progress to the next step. I will have several projects on different looms and so be able to tailor teaching to each individual learner - showing different techniques on different looms to ensure every learner progresses. My teaching style: I believe it is important to know each individual well, their needs and their next steps, so while showing the skills and techniques on the visualiser I will deliver the support required by each learner. I would encourage discussion and motivations in class, inviting learners to share their knitting goals, and offer any additional assistance in class and through the Classroom upload facility to help learners meet their goals. Learner-Teacher Interaction: We will interact constantly on camera. I have a visualiser and learners are welcome to use their own visualisers or reposition their cameras to share their looming work. As well as discussing our technique, what we are finding tricky and how we are improving, we will discuss our motivations, how knitting can be so useful, charity, the value of homemade gifts. Online quizzes about knitting, textiles and textile history are also a nice addition to classes.
Metas de aprendizaje
Each learner will be supported in creating a hat, cowl, scarf and/or a pair of mittens, or combination of these and after accomplishing this, the learner will be able to move onto more challenging projects with more confidence.
Otros detalles
Lista de útiles escolares
A set of circular looms (41, 36, 24 peg) - one loom alone would suffice if it matches the learner's initial goal. Loom hook Looming needle (plastic, chunky) Yarn - 2-3 x 50g balls Chunky yarn OR 3 x 100g balls DK (double knitting) to be knitted together (more cost effective) per item or two (ie. hat and cowl, hat and mittens). Doubling the chosen amount in different colours will enable the learner to develop their colour change skills (so 2-3 MORE balls of Chunky yarn, or 3 MORE 100g balls of DK, in a contrasting colour)
