Everyone loves a good challenge, puzzle, riddle, or word problem. They can keep your brain sharp and encourage great problem solving skills, all while having so much fun! Brain teasers have been known to improve memory and boost overall brain function, so let's give our brains a healthy challenge. What you can expect from this ongoing class is various challenges, puzzles, riddles, and word problems, both in math and language arts. We will look at different puzzles and riddles throughout the class. I will encourage individual problem solving by reading and rereading the riddle, which is an important strategy. We will use different strategies throughout to help us solve the puzzles. Hints will be available as needed. I will ask the students to put the answers into the chat so everyone gets a turn to try and solve the puzzles. This is meant to be fun, so I will remind everyone that if we can't solve it, it's okay! If we can't figure out the answer as a class, I will provide the answer after an appropriate amount of wait time. Each class, I will remind learners to not share the answer with the class and that it is okay to not know the answers. This purpose of this class is to encourage learners to think and stretch their brains. The riddles and puzzles will help your learner practice logic, work on memory, and engage in pattern connection observations. They are geared toward upper elementary ages and above. No supplies are needed. The classes are stand alone and do not build on one another. Week of September 25th: math and language arts puzzles and riddles Week of October 2nd: math and language arts puzzles and riddles Week of October 9th: math and language arts puzzles and riddles Week of October 16th: math and language arts puzzles and riddles Come join in fun challenges for your brain!

I’m a certified teacher in Elementary Education with my Master’s in Education Leadership, with experience in both in the US and internationally. My family and I had the privilege of living overseas for 15 years, teaching in international schools around the globe. I've lived in New Zealand, Kazakhstan, Thailand, and Bosnia and Herzegovina! I value teaching small groups, students from diverse backgrounds, instilling curiosity in my students, and encouraging students to take ownership of their learning. Over the course of my 18 years in the classroom, I have gained valuable insight into best practices and ways to connect with learners. I strive for each of my learners to know that I care deeply about them and their education. Connection is the base for all authentic learning.
On Outschool, I am teaching an array of different classes: math camps, problem solving, traveling, book clubs, nature journaling, tutoring, choose-your-own-adventure, reading comprehension courses, and novel studies to list a few. I believe in smaller class sizes to ensure quality of education and engagement.
Outside of teaching, I am an avid long-distance trail runner, reader, and traveler! I'm equally passionate about all three. I love anything outdoors. Travel has taught me valuable life-long lessons that I love sharing with others. I have a teacher husband (also on Outschool!), and two young children that I adore.
