This weekly drop-in music class will cover all the skills that would be practiced in a traditional school music class setting. Students are encouraged to attend regularly if they are able, but there is no prior knowledge necessary to attend a session in this ongoing class. I am an elementary music teacher with 16 years of classroom music teaching experience. 🎹 Each class will consist of the following: -vocal exploration exercises -singing games and fingerplays -steady beat practice -nursery rhymes and rhythm practice -listening and ear training/aural development -creating/composing music and lyrics Students will receive supplemental song sheets and activity pages for fun extra practice in between classes, and can also watch the class playback at any time! 🪇 Music practice at this age, through fun and exploration, sets the tone for future instrumental and vocal study. Hello! My name is Tara and I am a music teacher and mom in Florida, USA. I have been a school music teacher and private lesson instructor for 15 years, and I love what I do! I currently teach early childhood music at a K-8 school, as well as individual lessons in voice, guitar, piano, and ukulele. I also conduct a children's choir in my home community.
I have a Master of Music Education and Bachelor of Music Education, both from Florida State University. I have taught Pre-K through 12th grade music full time in Florida and Massachusetts schools, and hold teaching certificates in both states. I am proud that my educational background is focused on pedagogy, not just performance.
I believe that music is for every child, and every child is musical. There is a common misconception that musical ability is something people either have or "don't." Music can be taught and learned, just like any skill. Every child has music to share, and I want to help them nurture it. Music lessons are never "one size fits all" -- I am always creating instructional materials that suit the needs and interests of a particular student.
