Do you need to prepare for the Reading section of the SAT or ACT, but your schedule is a bit crazy? This flexible schedule class will fit your needs perfectly as we post weekly lessons with teacher recordings for you to complete on your own throughout the week. This class focuses on the Command of Evidence category of questions, including best evidence, author's use of evidence, and data interpretation.

Practice can make perfect when it comes to the Reading sections of the SAT and ACT. Join us in this four-week flexible-schedule class as we get lots of guided practice with all of the different types of questions and reading passages you may find on the SAT or ACT.

In this class, we designed the lessons around a particular question type each week instead of a passage. For example, we could focus on the "Determining the Best Evidence" category of questions for one week, starting with tips for that question type. This allows students to focus on the SKILLS needed for a particular question type!

Classes will follow this general format:
1. Identifying the skill set
2. Identifying the questions using typical formats
3. Strategies to win
4. "Fun" passages that allow you to practice the skill with a lower-level, interesting passage and teacher recordings/explanations
5. "Challenge" passages that allow you to practice the skill with SAT- and ACT-level reading and questions, as well as teacher recordings/explanations
6. A full passage practice test, complete with answer feedback
7. A "bonus" practice where you answer open-ended questions of the same caliber as typical exam questions

In the main part of the class, we pull questions of that type from a couple of different SAT- and ACT-level passages and put them into a practice question/poll format with the answer choices.

After students select their answer, the will be an answer slide including a full teacher explanation of why the answer is what it is, and why it is NOT any of the other possible selections.

Halfway through, we have a quick review to give everyone a "brain break" as well as to recap and reinforce the previous ideas.

In the second half of class, we will complete another round of polls and a second review game or collaboration board for reinforcement of ideas over exam-level passages and questions.

Finally, we would have a full passage with questions available in a self-graded Google Form at the end of class. This way, students will still get practice on a full passage, it will grade their assignment and give explanations for each question, and students can choose whether or not they would like to practice it in a timed or untimed atmosphere.

We also provide an optional growth log, where students can record the day they took the practice test, their score, write the questions they missed and why they missed it, and keep adding to it each week to track their own improvement.

Finally, each lesson includes an open-ended "bonus practice" question and passage set that gets students to analyze the passage in the same manner needed during testing day.

Class Schedule:
Week 1: Determining the Best Evidence Questions
Week 2: Analyzing Author's Use of Evidence Questions
Week 3: Data Interpretation Questions
Week 4: Command of Evidence Overview, Recap, and Final Practice with All Command of Evidence Questions
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will practice and refine their reading comprehension, their ability to determine which options provide the best evidence, their ability to analyze the author's use of evidence, and ability to interpret data on their way to achieving a higher SAT or ACT score in the reading section.

- Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.
- Read and comprehend complex literary and informational texts independently and proficiently.

>>ABOUT BECKY ZERR<<

Teaching--especially in English, writing, and language arts--is a true passion of mine. I graduated Cum Laude from Kansas State University in 2010 with a Secondary Education degree in English and Journalism, and then went on to teach in the public schools before setting off on my own as an online teacher and tutor.

My philosophy of education is to make it as fun, personalized, and as interactive as possible for the kids. I always try to even out my direct instruction/lecture time with plenty of opportunities for students to practice these new skills, take polls, play review games, and collaborate with peers.

I am happily married to my husband Brad, and we have two beautiful daughters, Sophia and Elise. We currently reside in Kansas in a small town, and we love the small town life.

Oh, and Zerr is pronounced "Zarr," so it rhymes with "car."
