Experiencia de clase

**Short videos will also be uploaded each week, on Saturday after class that will review what was taught in class. This way, learners can watch the techniques they want to practice with without having to re-watch the entire class video."

In the first week, students will learn safety procedures for handling a needle, sewing pins, and scissors. These important procedures are critical to your child's success and will be modeled by the instructor. Students will learn to cut out a simple pattern, thread a needle, tie a knot, and sew on a button by using the "push and pull" technique. Students will have time to practice and receive immediate support to help them grow in their learning of hand sewing. We will create a little book to hold their sewing needles.

In the second week, we will review our important safety procedures, and begin to learn the running stitch (which will also give students the opportunity to thread their needle and tie a knot from the previous week).. We will then cut out a pattern together to begin making our pincushion. We will then use a running stitch to sew the pieces together, and also use stuffing to gently fill the pincushion. Students will learn to sew the opening closed and tie the knot.

In the third week, safety procedures will be reviewed to help support students. We will cut out our patterns to create coasters, and one will be worked on during class, with students completing the rest of the coasters outside of class. Students will learn and practice the whipstitch, then will have the option of which stitch to use for their coasters. Students will be using their skill of threading their needle and tieing a knot in this project. We will also use pins in this class, which students can then store in the pincushion we made the week before.

In the fourth and final week, we will discuss how our safety practices kept us safe while sewing our projects. We will cut out the pieces of fabric for our project, and also prepare the ribbon for this bag to carry small items. We will use the whipstitch to sew our bag together, and to give it a border along the top. We will then learn how to sew the ribbon handle to the side seams of the bag.
