Experiencia de clase

When our children develop passions, we want to encourage them, even when (let's be honest) we sometimes get a little bit tired of hearing about the same game for hours on end. In Let's Play Minecraft, your kids will spend an hour telling me about their favorite texture packs, skins, builds, recipes, and designs. I will listen and ask questions so they can give me more detailed descriptions and explanations of game mechanics. Discussion between students about these topics is highly encouraged! We will strive towards conversations that are respectful and involve active listening.

The focus of this class is developing conversation skills with peers and adults, as well as learning to work together to accomplish a goal. I will offer positive feedback about a topic that students feel strongly about and give them an opportunity to feel heard and see their opinions and knowledge are valued. Learners will need their own Java-edition Minecraft account for this class.

Orientación para padres
Minecraft is a game that attracts players of all ages and can bring with it the risks of online space. During class time, I monitor students' interactions with other players in our realm, but parents should also routinely check in with their students' Minecraft activity to ensure their students are playing in a safe manner. I routinely remind students of basic rules of online safety, such as not giving out personal contact information to people online, but I only have your student for one hour a week. If you would like more information on cybersafety on Minecraft, please let me know! We will also regularly review the concepts of fair play and "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is" as they apply to online interactions. I will also reinforce the necessity of parents checking in on players and having open communication with parents in the event of unwelcome messaging. Again, these are concepts to reinforce with your students, as I only see them one hour per week. Please note that I will never communicate with students directly through Minecraft, in class or out. I use Outschool and Zoom for all teacher-student communications. I use our classroom realm solely for educational purposes.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am a geeky parent to a geeky kid, a gamer wife to a gamer husband - and I love engaging in games and geekery with kids! I have been playing Minecraft for over a decade, though I enjoy allowing the students to teach me new things, so I often play dumb! ^_^
