Do you love Science? In this Ongoing Class, learners will explore a range of Science subjects in a fun and interactive way. This course aims to provide meaningful learning experiences for young explorers. Each class will include a range of teaching methods and activities that are designed to engage the learners in both a hands-on and minds-on way. Classes will include experiments, Q&A, quizzes, games, worksheets, videos and much more. Some classes will include breakout rooms. Learners will be encouraged to observe, explore, question and share what they learn. A variety of methods are used to support learners and cater for different learning styles and needs. What is taught in this course? Week of 1/4/24 - Introduction to Botany - study of plants Week of 8/4/24 - Introduction to Botany - plant classification Week of 15/4/24 - Introduction to Botany - Hands-on activity: dissecting a flower and labeling its parts Week of 22/4/24 - Plant Life Cycle - plant life cycles, including germination, growth, reproduction, and senescence Week of 29/4/24 - Plant Life Cycle - seed dispersal mechanisms and pollination Week of 6/5/24 - Plant Life Cycle - Gardening project: planting seeds and observing the growth stages of a plant Week of 13/5/24 - Plant Anatomy and Physiology - plant cells, tissues, and organs Week of 20/5/24 - Plant Anatomy and Physiology - plant physiology topics such as photosynthesis, respiration, and transpiration Week of 27/5/24 - Plant Anatomy and Physiology - Leaf anatomy lab: observing leaf structure under a microscope Week of 3/6/24 - Plant Diversity - plant diversity, including flowering plants, non-flowering plants, and algae Week of 10/6/24 - Plant Diversity - plant adaptations to different environments and ecological niches Week of 17/6/24 - Plant Diversity - Botanical garden visit or virtual tour to observe a wide range of plant species Week of 24/6/24 - Plant Reproduction - plant reproduction methods, including sexual and asexual reproduction Week of 1/7/24 - Plant Reproduction - flower structure, pollination, and fertilization Week of 8/7/24 - Plant Reproduction - Pollination experiment: observing pollinators and their role in flower reproduction Week of 15/7/24 - Plant Ecology - plant ecology, including interactions with other organisms and the environment Week of 22/7/24 - Plant Ecology - ecosystems, biomes, and plant community dynamics Week of 29/7/24 - Plant Ecology - Nature walk or field trip to observe local plant communities and ecosystems Week of 5/8/24 - Plant Adaptations - plant adaptations to extreme environments, such as deserts, forests, and wetlands Week of 12/8/24 - Plant Adaptations - specialized plant structures like succulents, carnivorous plants, and epiphytes Week of 19/8/24 - Plant Adaptations - Plant adaptation project: designing a hypothetical plant species and its adaptations to a specific environment Week of 26/8/24 - Economic Botany - plants with economic importance, including food crops, medicinal plants, and industrial crops Week of 2/9/24 - Economic Botany - sustainable agriculture practices and the importance of plant conservation Week of 9/9/24 - Economic Botany - Field trip to a farm or botanical garden focusing on economic plant species Week of 16/9/24 - Plant Interactions - plant interactions with other organisms, including symbiotic relationships, herbivory, and plant defenses Week of 23/9/24 - Plant Interactions - plant communication and signaling mechanisms Week of 30/9/24 - Plant Interactions - Role-playing game: simulating plant interactions in an ecosystem Week of 7/10/24 - Careers in Botany and Botanical Art - careers in botany, including botanists, horticulturists, and plant researchers Week of 14/10/24 - Careers in Botany and Botanical Art - botanical art and illustration techniques Week of 21/10/24 - Careers in Botany and Botanical Art - Final project: creating a botanical illustration or herbarium collection We look forward to being part of your learning journey!
