If a learner is unable to finish their drawing during class time, they may want to continue working on their own after class. (Optional of course)Experiencia de clase
Do you like drawing people but have difficulty with features like eyes, noses, mouths, or hair? Do you want a place where you can practice, get advice, or be challenged in your portrait drawing skills? Come join as each week we will draw a different feature together using a provided reference photo. We will focus on a different topic each week going through a 5 week rotation of: nose, mouth, eyes, hair, then a full face. Week of Sept. 1: Full Face Week of Sept. 8: Nose Week of Sept. 15: Mouth Week of Sept. 22: Eyes Week of Sept. 29: Hair Week of Oct. 6: Full Face Week of Oct. 13: Nose Week of Oct. 20: Mouth Week of Oct. 27: Eyes Week of Nov. 3: Hair Week of Nov. 10: Full Face Week of Nov. 17: Nose Etc... Through practice and instruction, learners will improve their observation, shading, and blending techniques in pencil drawing. Although we rotate through and repeat five main topics (nose, mouth, eyes, hair, full face), the reference photos will always be different each time through. The specific subject is student led, as at the beginning of class students get to vote on 2-3 different reference photos. The photo with the most votes is what we'll draw together. Students are also welcome and encouraged to give suggestions for future reference photos, based on what they'd like to learn or practice (specific expressions, hair textures, eye colors, etc.). This class may be better suited for those who are intermediate or advanced artists, but beginners are welcome to give it a try. The teacher will provide a step-by-step process as well as useful tips and techniques throughout our time together, and the learners are highly encouraged to ask questions and share their work as we draw together.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will improve their pencil shading and blending skills while learning drawing techniques on human facial features: eyes, noses, mouths, and hair. They will learn about the importance and role of light and how to create the subtle shadows and highlights that bring portraits to life. We will also focus on building our observation skills in order to draw people more accurately.
