Fine motor skills are necessary for writing. Practicing making simple shapes in pictures is a wonderful and fun way to develop early fine motor skills! Putting shapes together to make an imaginary train makes it even more fun! In this class beginner drawing class, we will use a few shapes and a whole lot of imagination to make a fantasy train! By assembling rectangles, circles, triangles, squares and trapezoids, along with learning "parallel lines" and patterns, we have the basic template for any train your learner can dream up! Since learner ability will vary, we will keep it very simple as far as drawing the basic train in a directed drawing format (first, next, then, etc). Then, for learners who are ready for a little more, we touch on patterns (such as alternating colors for the wheels, etc). The main goal is to just give the learner a positive and fun experience with creative and suggested/directed drawing and spark their imagination! We'll also briefly look at what a real train is at the beginning of class. This a fun, relaxed and low pressure environment. Creativity is encouraged! Bring your whole box of crayons and amaze each other with your colors and imagination! This age range will be 3-6. (If you have a learner who is 7 and wants to participate, they are absolutely welcome also, but this is a high energy class in order to keep the attention of the younger ones). Parental assistance might be necessary for younger learners but we'll keep the shapes basic and embellish from there! I like to keep mics open in class for conversation, but I know that life happens and backgrounds can be noisy, especially if we have a full class and that verbal parent instruction is often necessarily. In these situations, for instruction, I will mute the learner but will frequently ask them to unmute so that they can speak and share their artwork because seeing everyone else's drawings and how different they all are is an incredibly fun part of class...and so is conversation! This is basically a reboot of the holiday train class I ran over the holidays. It was so incredibly fun that I just couldn't let it go and it's been adapted as just a fantasy or candy train class (if your learner doesn't like candy, they can add balloons, fruit, flowers etc!) Suggested ideas: Learner can use markers, crayons or colored pencils. I like sharp crayons for this class, since they colors are bright, but whatever they would like to use is fine. Colored pencils will yield a more detailed pictures and a combination of both any mediums is workable. There isn't any homework, but I have listed some train songs and a book that can be additional resources :) "Animals In Winter: A Preschool and Kindergarten Drawing and Science Class!" "D is for Draw a Dinosaur A Preschool and Kindergarten Alphabet Drawing Class" "B Is for Butterfly C Is for Caterpillar: A Pre-K and Kindergarten Drawing Class" Plus many more! You can see them on my profile page! I also run weekly circle time classes where we learn letters, numbers and different topics in science and social studies!: "Preschool Circle Time With Mrs. Kelly: Science, Social Studies and Art!"

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hello from beautiful northern New Jersey! I'm excited at the opportunity to continue to bring a love for learning to children after homeschooling my own children for the past 20 years. Since 2017, I have taught over 5700 classes to Chinese students ages 3 to 15. I have a BA degree in Elementary Education and English Writing (dual major) and an American Literature minor from William Paterson University in New Jersey. I have a New Jersey teaching license for grades K-8, and TESOL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification.
As my children grew, I did a lot of volunteer teaching which includes several years of teaching preschool/kindergarten VBS (Vacation Bible School) and Sunday school classes, as well as teaching Pioneer Girls. In each of these, I heavily incorporated arts, crafts and hands on participation into our curriculum. I also taught a Sunday school class for special needs children for five years. This experience has given me an understanding of children with learning and behavioral challenges. Preschool aged children have always held a special place in my heart in my teaching experience with VIPKID, and I have incorporated puppets, art, and a lot of humor into my online classroom with them with great results. When I can get a belly laugh out of a student online, my whole day is made! My teaching style is low pressure with lots of positive encouragement, as I strive to help every child feel that they have something valuable to contribute.
When I was 12 years old, I discovered what would turn into my lifelong passion; antiques and history. In my early teens, I devoured every book in the library that I could find about antique dolls and toys. When I grew into adulthood, I channeled my obsession into a business and since 1997, I have owned Suburban Treasure, an online antique and collectibles business. I am also a professional antique doll restorationist.
In addition, I am also a self taught artist and since 2004, have created art dolls in my studio "Spring Valley Studios Sasha Dolls". My dolls have found their ways into collectors' homes all over the world!
My childhood interests shaped my future career. I realized in my own children that I very much wanted to foster in them that same love and desire for learning. I try to carry that passion into my classroom! My heart is in preschool and kindergarten aged learners and I have discovered truly how much I love this age group as I have been teaching it almost exclusively here on Outschool!
I hope to see your child soon in the classroom!
