~~~Use Coupon Code INGRAPRIDE9 for 50% off!~~~ What better way is there to celebrate pride than with colorful art? Paint your own LGBTQIA+ pride flags to get the hang of controlling watercolor paints, study how colors interact with each other, and learn how to create light and shadow with flowing fabric. Beginner watercolorists are welcome! But of course, what's a queer-pride themed class without a safe space to discuss? So to top off all the art fun, queer guest artist and speaker Carson Miller (he/him) will be joining us to paint and discuss what it's like to be queer in the art world. Carson will speak for the first 15-20 minutes of the class. Then we will begin a step-by-step tutorial through the project. As we move gradually through the painting process, Carson will take questions and he and I will guide discussions to keep the lesson and the conversation on track. All are welcome to join! Bring your respect, courtesy, and a positive attitude and let's get celebr-art-ing! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Artists learn best from experiencing other artists' work and ideas, so questions, collaboration, and sharing is always highly encouraged, though not required. Any incomplete work can be finished up outside of class (if desired). I find that a teacher is only as good as their flexibility. I use structure to guide students in achieving certain skills, but I leave the experimentation, creativity, and imagination up to them! I actively strive to learn from my students as much as they can learn from me.
Metas de aprendizaje
Artists will learn the basics of watercolor painting (blending colors, water-to-paint ratios, controlling paint, and changing values). Artists will examine how colors interact with one another to create new colors and how to control vibrance/neutrality. Artists will have a safe space to discuss LGBTQIA+ issues and concerns and how to communicate them.
Licenciatura desde California State Polytechnic University, Pomona
Grado asociado en Música o Teatro o Artes desde Cuesta Community College
I am a published illustrator who has been teaching art since 2020, when I led a paint tutorial for a sixth grade birthday party that was almost cancelled due to the pandemic. I really enjoyed the experience and became excited about the idea of sharing art and creativity with other artists. I love both the science and subjectiveness of art--I think there's a lot we can learn from it, and I can't wait to share it with your learners!
