Students will create 4 different Dragon Art Sculptures using Polymer Clay.
Each lesson is a step by step learning experience, where students will be able to customize their dragons while learning the steps. I start with a beginner friendly dragon lesson, then move onto a more advanced dragon lesson. We will create 4 full dragon sculptures in total.

Wings of Fire fans, create your favorite hybrids! Turn them into Mythology and D&D Original Concept Dragons!

Each lesson will have audio and video, along with step by step guides that are broken down into small segments.
There are no Live meetings.

This class uses Nearpod.

Lesson #1:
Design and Create a Sleeping Dragon Sculpture! Plan out one main color, one or two accent colors, and wing color.
Collaboration Board

Lesson #2:
Design and Create a Standing Dragon Sculpture! This dragon will be holding something…you can use a glass marble, stone, or create an orb or egg out of clay.

Lesson #3:
Design and Create a Gemstone Dragon Sculpture! SAPPHIRE or RUBY…Sapphire and Ruby are the two gem-varieties of corundum, so they are very similar in make up.

Lesson #4:
Design and Create an Elemental Dragon Sculpture! WATER ELEMENT

Supplies:
Polymer Clay (any brand you prefer. I like to use Sculpey). *In total, approximately 1/2 of a 2oz. brick is plenty per dragon!* (a tiny bit goes a LONG way with miniatures!!)
Basic Sculpting tools, toothpick, smoothing tool
A Baking sheet (covered with parchment)
Cutting tool or clay knife
A non stick surface to work on (You can cover a piece of cardboard with parchment paper and tape it to the bottom…that works)
A small rolling pin
Variety of colors of polymer clay (whatever colors you want for your dragons)
Metal sculpting/jewelry wire or wooden toothpicks (to attach the head to body)
Note: I like to use Translucent polymer clay for wings and fins so they have a clear appearance, but that is optional.
Small GLASS beads or Crystals for eyes (for 3 of the dragons). I use 6.0 size seed beads. You may use clay if you cannot access these.
NO PLASTIC. We can only bake Glass, Wood, Metal and natural stone/crystal.
OPTIONAL: A glass marble, crystal, bead or stone (for weeks 2 and 3)
Aluminum Foil (for propping)

OPTIONAL:
Clear Water-Based Gloss Polyurethane, Mod Podge or Sculpey Gloss Glaze for after baking

**Polymer clay requires baking according to the package direction. (Generally ~275 °F, depending on your brand of clay). You may do this after class. Parental help is necessary.

NOTE: Students may use air dry clay or modeling dough if they prefer not to use polymer bake clay

Hi There!
I'm Lori...a graduate of F.I.T in NYC. I've worked in different areas of the design industry since 1991, from illustration, pattern making, garment construction to designing full story boards for buyers. I tutored Fashion Illustration for a few years to help other students complete their professional portfolios before their interviews. Besides getting creative, I LOVE animals! I have quite a few furry little beasts. Right now, my profession is Graphic Design, but fashion illustration and design is still what I do when I need to unwind from technology. I believe that once you learn the basics of how to get that creativity out of your mind and onto paper, you open up a whole new world, being able to share and build on your talents.
