NOTE: this is a flex version of the widely popular “learn to play piano for young beginners” course. It is delivered through videos and interaction/feedback in the classroom. This gives you the opportunity to repeat the information as needed, or slow down based on your schedule. There are NO live meetings.

Students will learn:
-to recognize the keys on the piano and their names.
-finger numbers and how they relate to the position on the piano.
-melodic contour
-learning songs by rote and by reading
-learn the value of practice and extension at home
-basic rhythms and how to play and clap them
-proper piano position and posture

Each week students will receive a video lesson to follow along with and work on. Students work to learn all about the piano and work on their finger independence and piano preparation.

Classroom Sharing:
1)Each week students will post one video in the class of a song they enjoyed playing or a song they enjoyed singing and moving with from the CD. Share your favourite part of the lesson that you practiced in the classroom! The teacher will provide feedback on your videos and recommendations and each student is asked to comment one thing they liked about each of the videos they see. For example "Bob, I love how you are sitting really tall!" "Suzie, I like that song too, it is my favourite."

2) Post a picture of your completed writing book assignments each week to show your great work!

3) Ear Training Game: Periodically we will have an "Ear training Game" thread where the teacher will post a specific ear training assignment to listen to. For example, we will play rhythm telephone a lot= I will clap a short rhythm. Then you leave a video clapping my short rhythm and then your new short rhythm, the next students claps your short rhythm and their own, until we have a wonderful musical train of rhythms.

All students will require a keyboard or piano to practice at home. Regular weekly practice will be required in order to improve as with any instrument instruction.

Orientación para padres
Like most early music programs we strongly recommend parents sit with the students in class to help during class but also in practice. Supporting our young students to develop strong practice habits at a young age is essential. This flex version does NOT meet live but is a great option for you to explore piano when your child is feeling ready and in a great mind set rather than scheduling.
