In this class learners will be introduced to the basic rules of How to Play Magic the Gathering. They will be taught how to read a Magic card, the types of Magic cards, the steps to a game and some of the ways of playing the game. Magic the Gathering is the world's #1 most popular trading card game. It has also been determined to be the world's most complicated trading card game. As such, learners are instructed in the most basic aspects of game play, allowing them to move forward and explore the game while playing.

The goal of this class is to provide players the foundational aspects and rules of the game. While no one can learn the game fully in just one lesson (there are over 20,000 different game pieces and literally hundreds of rules), my How to Play lesson provides an excellent starting point for years of game play and development!

Hello fans of Magic the Gathering (and their parents)!
Following a forty year career in publishing and as a small business owner, including running a Magic the Gathering (MTG) game store, I have embarked on a new passion; sharing my knowledge of, and love of, Magic the Gathering to students all over the world.
My tutoring and teaching experience includes students aged 4 to 40. I have taught in a pre-school, tutored college students in English and writing, mentored professional writers and helped hundreds learn Magic the Gathering or improve their game play. Recently, I obtained certification as a Level 5 English as a Second Language instructor to gain additional insights in becoming the best teacher/mentor possible.
I have been playing Magic the Gathering since it first came out in 1993. During that time I have played thousands of games, taken part in hundreds of local and national tournaments and taught dozens of new players how to play the game, as well as mentoring established players on the game's finer points. I am passionate about teaching not only how to play the game, but also mentoring students in the critical thinking, mathmatics, social skills, sportsmanship and other life skills which are part of the game. My favorite thing about Magic the Gathering is just how much fun it is to play, while also providing so many lessons that can enhance your life.
