Assessment for this class is informal. I don't give out letter grades. I do, however, like to write a message to parents after each lesson and outline what the child is doing well, and what they can improve upon.

Experiencia de clase

Hola! In this weekly class, I'll teach your kids how to speak Spanish from the very basics. This class is designed for beginners, so we'll start off with greetings and introductions.

Each week, we'll learn something completely new. Please note that these classes do NOT build on each other, so your child will feel comfortable joining class with me on any date that is convenient for you. Each week will have a new, independent lesson for your child.

This is not a full immersion class, since it is designed for beginners. This means that I will not speak 100% Spanish in these lessons. I will give instructions and explanations in English, for the benefit of your child.

Please note that it is important for your child to be willing to repeat the Spanish words during class, and practice saying them with me in the lessons.

Here are some of the features that you can expect in each interactive lesson:
-an ice-breaker question to get your child comfortable in class
-vocabulary review games via Nearpod
-Nearpod activities like Time to Climb, Fill in the Blanks, etc
-ample opportunity for your child to speak Spanish
-an eye-catching slide presentation
-a slide dedicated to learning an important aspect of Mexican culture
-some lessons will have a short story, written by me, to practice the Spanish vocabulary taught in the lesson
-optional homework after most classes, for extra practice

Here is a breakdown of the class topics scheduled for each week for the first several weeks of the lesson. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of class topics that will be discussed into the future. This is just to give you an idea of how we will start.

Please also note that I schedule classes for each week, beginning on Mondays and ending on Sundays.

Week 1: Greetings. Students will learn different expressions for saying HELLO, WHAT'S UP, GOOD AFTERNOON, etc. We'll also discuss the importance of showing personal interest when greeting someone in Mexico.

Week 2: Goodbyes. Kids will learn many different expressions to say goodbye in Spanish, like SEE YOU LATER, UNTIL NEXT TIME, I'LL SEE YOU, etc. We'll also talk a bit about the cultural context of saying goodbye in Mexico, and how it may be different from what a person may be used to in the US (since that's where I'm from).

Week 3: Basic Introductions. Students will learn how to share their names in two different ways in Spanish, and how to ask for someone's name in two ways. We'll also discuss the difference between two ways to say YOU in Spanish, as well as how to ask for someone's last name. Kids will also learn about the Spanish naming tradition that is commonly used for last names in Mexico.

Week 4: How are you? Kids will learn how to ask about others, as well as 5 different adjectives to describe their mood today. We'll also learn how to make adjectives grammatically match their nouns in Spanish, depending if the adjective is masculine or feminine.

Week 5: Pronouns. In this class, students will learn 10 different pronouns in Spanish, with lots of practice so they can remember the vocabulary.

And much more!

If your child joins me for class at any time, don't worry. Since the material does not build on previous lessons, they won't feel lost if they join us for the third, fourth, or even the fifteenth class.

Sometimes, for example, new students join a class that used to have learners, but they have withdrawn due to schedule conflicts. The new students would start this lesson cycle from Lesson 1.

I look forward to seeing your child soon! Nos vemos!
