1 horas 20 minutos horas presenciales
Tarea
1-2 horas por semana. Homework is assigned. Students are encouraged to always write the new vocabulary in their dedicated Latin notebook, and create declension and conjugation charts. Translations are included in the homework. I supply the slide show and homework documents after class is complete. I can send them via Microsoft Word/Power Point, Apple Pages/Keynotes, or Google Docs/Slides - let me know which is best for your learner.
Evaluación
I send a note to the family and the student after class with a progress update.

Experiencia de clase

This section of Latin 1 builds on Pre-Latin and Classes 1, 2, and 3, so unless the student has previous experience with 1st/2nd conjugations, and 1st/2nd declensions and a rudimentary knowledge of how they work, this class may not be suitable.

We will be learning new vocabulary, and practicing translations from Horace and Catullus (both age appropriate). We will also be looking in-depth at Latin sentence structure using color coding learning techniques. I find visual learners really benefit from this method. We'll also be doing some sight reading and reviewing verb/noun/adjective charts and word endings.

For fun and edutainment, we'll be taking a virtual field trip to Pompeii! It is just as important to learn about the culture when you are learning a language! We will see digital reconstructions of the home of Lucius Caecilius Iucundus, and learning a bit about his life. We will also see parts of a virtual walking tour of the ruins of Pompeii.

I use slide shows, video clips, and pictures in a lecture-based class. Because this is a language class, first and foremost, it is very interactive. Students repeat a lot in order to learn pronunciation, and for the sake of memory. We also have discussions, and I always value students' thoughts and opinions. I encourage them to question, and the comment as much as they want and need to.

Metas de aprendizaje

In this class, students will review charts, learn new vocabulary and 2nd declension nouns. They will practice translations and sight reading. They will also be introduced to Roman culture to intertwine with the language lessons.
