In today's class, we will review what you've learned in Pre-Latin and Latin 1: Classes 1 and 2. We will talk about, and then practice, how the Latin cases and conjugations correlate to the English parts of speech. This will help you identify them when you see a Latin sentence, and then use each word, like a puzzle piece, to understand the sentence you are reading. We will also go back over our vocabulary words, and fill in the noun and verb charts. I will also show you how I set up my own Latin notebook when I was a beginner at Latin. Trust me, your notebook will be invaluable to you as you progress in learning this beautiful language. Be certain to bring your dedicated Latin notebook and the printed handouts from the previous classes today. You can use them to refer to our review. Aside from the review, we will learn about 2nd declension nouns, and have more new translations to interpret. In each class, I encourage students to talk freely and interact with me and other students. I truly believe that education is a conversation, and people learn when they are able to discuss ideas, thoughts, and are able to see their voice is valued. The class is partially lecture-based, but we work with repetition when learning verb and noun endings. All slides are created specifically for this class and tailored for the curriculum. Source materials are drawn from Wheelock, Cambridge, Oxford, Minimus, and my own Latin studies. At the end of class, I will attach a take-home quiz in a message to you. You can return it to me via that same message (attached in the reply). You are allowed to use any resources from class (the PDFs, handouts, etc), your notes, and either a dictionary or the free online resource, Latin Wiktionary, to help you with the quiz. I will assess your score and return it to you.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will leave this class with more confidence in 1st conjugation verb forms, 1st declension nouns and adjectives, and a better understanding of how to construct/deconstruct Latin sentences. They will realize they recognize many of the words from the previous lessons and can sight read a few Latin sentences.
