Experiencia de clase

In this course, students will learn about the world of Rome in AD 64 by focussing on entertainment and religion. The course will involve reading, writing, acting and using Latin both actively and as part of everyday English.

This course is the second part of my KS3 Latin course and it will focus on chapters 3 and 4 of the book Suburani. It is suitable for intermediate learners even if they have started with a different course. Please do get in touch if you would like me to assess suitability. The course is designed for those who want to learn Latin as part of their studies, and all aspects of the language and culture will be covered. Students who are learning Latin in school and are looking for support or a complement are also welcomed, but please do get in touch first to see how this course aligns with the vocabulary and grammar you are learning.

Here is the weekly plan:

Weeks 1 and 2: The Circus Maximus and Roman chariot races. Using singular the plural verbs correctly.
Weeks 3 and 4: The three stages of Roman history: monarchy, republic and empire. The accusative plural.
Weeks 5 and 6: State religion, temples and the historical emergence of Christianity. The third declension.
Weeks 7 and 8: Flood myths, including Deucalion and Pyrrha. Using the declensions and understanding grammatical categories.

Metas de aprendizaje

Students will learn about Latin and the Romans as part of an exploration of life in antiquity and the linguistic diversity of the ancient world. By the end of the course, students will have a sound understanding of the structure and sounds of the Latin language, and will have developed their linguistic awareness to help them use language in a more confident and intentional way.

Orientación para padres
The behaviours and attitudes displayed in the story reflect those in Roman times and will include references to sexist attitudes, enslavement of peoples and violence. These topics will not be avoided but explored, and students will be encouraged to examine them.
Lista de útiles escolares
Access to the Suburani online coursebook and interactive exercises for the duration of the course is included in the price. Additionally, students can also purchase the a physical copy of the book from the distributor.
Other than this, students should have a dedicated folder to the subject and, ideally, a vocabulary notebook. Here is an example of a vocabulary notebook, but any notebook will work equally well: mybook.to/latinnotebook
