Who is this class designed for? Students who currently taking an in-person Chemistry I or Chemistry Honors class or homeschooled students are self-studying using a textbook or other online resource and need additional support and review. This class is not designed to replace current instruction. This class would also be helpful for students who are currently taking AP Chemistry and did not take Chemistry before. (If this is the case you may also want to check out my Key Topics in AP Chemistry course.) How will this class help your child? Each class is designed to “hit” the key points of the topic, dispel common misconceptions, and provide a targeted review. How is the class structured? Students will be expected to spend about 30 minutes between each class watching instructional videos, taking notes before class, and completing (as best as possible) a short assignment reviewing the topic. During class, I will give a quick review of the topic, answer questions, and review the assignment, answering as needed. We will then tackle more complex problems to ensure students have mastered the content. After class, students may take a short assessment to test their knowledge and receive feedback on areas they may want to study more. What materials are used during the class? Each class is structured using a Google Slideshow with videos, notes, and problems. Additional activities and review materials will also be linked within the Google Slideshow. I also provide a link to an online textbook for reference. Will my child have fun during class? Maybe…I start each class with a short icebreaker and include corny Chemistry jokes and quick review games throughout. I also bring in real-world examples from medicine and the environment to help make the content more meaningful.
