You do not have to celebrate Juneteenth to make these delicious cupcakes.****. ****Note: Please have all ingredients measured out before class and supplies ready for use.**** ****BONUS: You learn how to make flag cupcake picks for your cupcakes.**** ****There is a class minimum of 2 students.**** Juneteenth is a significant American holiday. It is a day when formerly enslaved African-Americans were freed from slavery. For many years people celebrated this holiday with many various and traditions. One of these traditions was to make and eat red foods. In honor of this tradition, we will make red velvet cupcakes! Students will learn: 1. Cupcake baking techniques 2. How to make tangy cream cheese frosting 3. The importance of time and temperature 4. How to craft miniature Juneteenth Flags picks to decorate the cupcakes. My classes are interactive. I like to to begin class with all my learners on the same page. So, it is IMPORTANT to come to class prepared with all ingredients measured out and your equipment ready for use. ****Please look over the learning goals to see if this is a good fit for your learner. **** Some techniques are for intermediate bakers.

Dear Parents: We will be using a mixer and an oven. Please have an adult on hand to supervise these operations if necessary. Also theses recipes contain known allergens such as cream cheese, eggs, chocolate, red food coloring, and gluten. Please be aware of these the ingredients when considering this class. In addition, enslavement can be an emotional and sensitive topic. We will focus on celebrating and baking.

Red velvet cupcakes- flour, cornstarch, vanilla, cream cheese, eggs, unsalted butter, unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, vinegar, buttermilk or milk, powdered sugar, vegetable oil, red food coloring and salt Equipment- stand or hand mixer, sifter or sieve, two mixing bowls, wax paper/parchment paper, cupcake liners, cupcake pan, mixing bowl, whisk, measurement cups and spoons, hand or stand mixer, rubber spatula, cake piping bag or food storage bag, pot holder or oven mitt, cooling rack (optional) Printer, glue, and toothpick(optional)
