Math is Fun and Exciting! Let me get your child ready for 3rd grade math. Perfect for advanced 2nd graders too! Having a strong foundation in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division skills are key to your child's success. This class digs deep into those 4 areas of math and will give your child a strong foundation and strategies to help them keep that foundation strong!
What is included with this class:

👩‍🏫1. A certified teacher with over 20 years of experience in public, private, and online schools.

🙋‍♀️2. Help if your child does not understand the concept, please send me a message and I will answer any questions your child may have.

😉3. I utilize the chat feature in Zoom to answer questions and no one sees the answers except the teacher. I know some children are afraid to speak out and that is why we use the chat feature.

📰4. A monthly newsletter sent out the first class of every month or if you join after the first class, it will be sent when you book. The newsletter will include what we are learning in class, tips and tricks to help your student succeed in math, and days that we will not be meeting.

📄5. A work packet for us to complete during class and also extra work in between classes that is optional for students that need extra practice.

This class is for children entering the third grade or children that are in the second grade and are advanced. We learn new skills each week that are typically introduced the first semester in third grade giving your child an advantage in math. I like to show the class that math is not hard and can be easy. I will show them tips and tricks to solve problems. Each week, I will upload worksheets and I always upload more than what we will do in class in case the student wants extra practice. The extra sheets are optional and do not need to be turned in unless the learner wants feedback. The class loves playing learning games during class to help with skills reinforcement and the children are encouraged to share a math game that they have played. We are going to learn so much this summer and have so much fun! I look forward to seeing you in class!

Below is a breakdown of what will be taught each week:

The week of 6/18/24- Use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100
Math Vocabulary-digit -expanded form -place Value -standard Form -word Form -rounding.

The week of 6/25- Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction Identify arithmetic patterns (including patterns in the addition table or multiplication table), and explain them using properties of operations. For example, observe that 4 times a number is always even, and explain why 4 times a number can be
decomposed into two equal addends
Math Vocabulary--Associative Property of Addition -Commutative Property of Addition-Identity Property of Addition -mental math -parentheses -pattern -estimate

The week of 7/9-Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationships between addition and subtraction
Math Vocabulary:-regroup -inverse Operation

The week of 7/23- Interpret products of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 5x7 as the total number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects each. For example, describe a context in which
a total number of objects can be expressed as 5x7
Math Vocabulary-equal Groups -multiplication -multiplication sentence -multiply -product

The week of 7/30- Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem
Math Vocabulary-factors -Commutative Property of Multiplication -array -combination -tree Diagram

The week of 8/5– Practice different addition and subtraction strategies across zeros. We will learn shortcuts to complex problems.

The week of 8/13- Identify arithmetic patterns (including patterns in the addition table or
multiplication table), and explain them using properties of operations. For example, observe that 4 times a number is always even, and explain why 4 times a number can be
decomposed into two equal addends. Multiply one-digit whole numbers by multiples of 10 in the range 10-90 (e.g., 9x80, 5x60) using strategies based on place value and properties of operations
Math Vocabulary-multiple

The week of 8/20- Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8x5 =40, one knows 40/5=8) or properties of operations.
Math Vocabulary-known fact

Hello Everyone!! I love to teach fun and engaging classes for children ages 3-8. I enjoy being silly and singing silly songs with the class. My puppets and my own pets often visit the class. I have been teaching Prekindergarten for the past 8 years and before that, I taught kindergarten for 9 years. I love the energy that the young learners bring to class.

When I am not teaching, you will find me hanging out with my family around a camp fire or traveling around the United States. I am also a Girl Scout leader in my community and love taking my Girl Scout troop on many adventures including camping trips, field trips and hiking trips. We like to earn a lot of STEM and nature badges. I love the outdoors and try to get out as much as possible. When I taught in the local public school classroom, I would often take my class outdoors to teach if it was a nice day. So come join me in class and see what adventures we will take! I have been getting requests for classes during the after school hours, so I am starting to add more classes during the after school hours. I look forward to seeing you in class!!
