Students will also learn the different contexts in which the styles are performed and their distinctive rhythmic and melodic traditions. Additionally, we will spend some time looking at connections between different styles historically. In other words, we will talk about things like how here in the United States we moved from big band and doo-wop to heavy metal and Hip Hop in the span of about 50-60 years. Please note that Zoom Breakout Rooms may be used during class to allow students to have small group discussions. And Beyond just talking about the music we hear, we will also interact with the music by playing some of the rhythms we hear by clapping and tapping them. Additionally, instrumentalists and singers can interact with the music by performing some of the things they hear as well. I designed the course to be educational, fun, and Interactive. *Please note that each class actually comprises of 45 minutes of instruction. The last five minutes are reserved for the quiz. Students who don't require a grade do not have to stay for the quiz.
