Step into the exciting world of visual effects (VFX) compositing with this introductory class! Designed for beginners aged 13-18, this one-hour session will guide you through downloading and installing the non-commercial version of Nuke(free with login), a powerful industry-standard compositing software. You'll get an overview of node-based compositing and an introduction to Nuke's controls and graphical user interface (GUI).

What You’ll Learn:
•	Downloading and Installing Nuke: Step-by-step instructions to get the non-commercial version of Nuke up and running on your computer.
•	Introduction to Node-Based Compositing: Understand the basics of node-based workflows, a fundamental concept in professional VFX compositing.
•	Overview of Nuke's GUI: Familiarize yourself with the layout, controls, and key features of Nuke's interface.

Class Structure:
•	Introduction (5 minutes): Meet your instructor and get an overview of what you’ll learn.
•	Downloading and Installing Nuke (15 minutes): Step-by-step guidance on how to download and install the non-commercial version of Nuke on your computer.
•	Node-Based Compositing Overview (10 minutes): Introduction to the concept of node-based compositing and why it's important in VFX.
•	Exploring Nuke's GUI (20 minutes): A tour of Nuke’s interface, including the main panels, basic controls, and essential tools.
•	Q&A and Wrap-Up (10 minutes): Address any questions, recap key points, and discuss resources for further learning.

Materials Needed:
•	A computer with internet access
•	The non-commercial version of Nuke installed (we’ll cover this in class, but it’s helpful to have it pre-installed if possible)
•	Some sort of video file (.mov) you can use to test with. I will also provide a file to use.

By the end of the session, you’ll have Nuke set up on your computer and a basic understanding of node-based compositing, setting the stage for more advanced VFX projects in the future.

This class involves using Nuke, a professional visual effects compositing software. While there is no content that should be upsetting or scary, learners will be navigating a complex software interface. It's important that they follow the instructions carefully to avoid any frustration. No official media content ratings are applicable as we will not be using external media. The non-commercial version of Nuke is free but does require making an account on The Foundry's website in order to download and register. Please ensure your child has a comfortable workspace and basic computer literacy to navigate the software effectively. There are no additional safety precautions required for this class.

For this class, students will need the following materials:

Computer with Internet Access: A computer capable of running Nuke and an internet connection to participate in the class.

Nuke (Non-Commercial Version) Installed: Please download and install the non-commercial version of Nuke before the class to save time. The software can be downloaded for free from the official Foundry website.


Video File for Testing: Any short video file (.mov) that students can use to practice compositing. This can be a simple clip from their phone or any sample footage available online. I will also provide a sample file.

Basic Computer Peripherals: A mouse and keyboard for navigating and operating the software efficiently.

Two Monitors (Recommended): Having two monitors is highly recommended so students can work on one screen while viewing the instructor's screen on the other. This setup makes following along and multitasking much easier.

These supplies are essential for completing the class and engaging fully with the learning activities. Please ensure to acquire and prepare these materials in advance to make the most of the class.
