Experiencia de clase

This class is a pre-requisite for any student who has limited or no experience on a sewing machine. All of my other classes are project based and require sewing machine knowledge. If your student has taken a class or learned from a relative how to use a machine, they may be just fine moving onto one of my beginner 1 or 2 sewing classes.

Your student may need an adult to help here and there, so it would be helpful if an adult is close by if needed.

*I'm unable to teach students using the Mini Table Top sewing machines. Unfortunately these are too unpredictable and not user friendly. If you're unsure if your machine fits this description, please feel free to message me

**Refund Policy
All One-Time classes have a standard refund policy: "Full refund until a week in advance, or within 24 hours of purchase (until class starts)."

CLASS OBJECTIVES

Objective 1 - Students will be able to identify main parts of the sewing machine by the end of class.
Objective 2 - Students will be able to wind a bobbin, and thread a sewing machine by the end of class.
Objective 3 - Students will be able to move fabric through the sewing machine in a straight line, turn corners, and backstitch by the end of class.

CLASS OUTLINE

Objective 1: I will show students the basic parts of the machine and have them identify and recall the parts back to me. Each student will take a turn quizzing each other on the parts to help them memorize the name. I will then instruct them how to run the machine using paper (no thread) so they can get experience and become comfortable using the machine on their own. They will master straight lines, backstitching and corners on paper.

Objective 2: I will demonstrate how to wind a bobbin with their thread and they will practice on their own. I will then demonstrate how to thread their machine and they will do it on their own. As they work, I will help trouble shoot any problems or questions they have throughout the entire process.

Objective 3: We will practice our previously mastered skills on scrap fabric to ensure students were successful and are prepared for the project based classes.

PLEASE SEE STUDENT SUPPLY LIST TO ENSURE YOUR LEARNER IS PREPARED for this class. The sound of the machines will be very distracting as well, so I will expect students to keep their microphones muted during their practice time.

Parents, please ensure your student is placed in front of a table or desk where the sewing machine can be comfortably reached to ensure safety. Your student will need to be in an appropriate seat to be able to reach his or her foot pedal as well so they can safely start and stop the machine as needed.

Perfil
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
My passion for sewing goes hand in hand with teaching. Helping others learn the art of sewing either as a hobby or future career is my goal. I teach ages 7+ beginner classes, starting with threading a machine and building techniques to work toward sewing Independence through projects and samples. I have several private students who work on intermediate and advanced protects.

I previously taught high school sewing and fashion design for 7 years before stepping away to be a stay at home mom. I still love to share knowledge with others so teaching on Outschool has been a perfect fit

I believe people learn best through experience so my classes are project based. Each project has specific techniques that we will focus on mastering that can applied to future projects. Some projects require a prerequisite course to ensure specific knowledge is acquired for success.

A fun side note- Although I continue to teach, I also do custom clothing and alterations on the side. I've created fun costumes like Princess Peach and Princess Jasmine dresses and even a Zelda recreation!
