Ever wanted to learn how to draw a cartoon? How about a boy for starters? In this course, we'll be doing just that! Meeting 1 - Sketching a Cartoon Kid: We'll start with a round of introductions followed by a fun class discussion about appealing cartoons, why we like them and why we don't like some other designs. From there, we'll be doing simple drawing exercises, just some simple shapes and lines like the ones we'll be using later for our cartoon. We'll be looking at how to hold a pencil correctly. Learning about how to draw lightly so that sketching and erasing go smoothly. I'll demonstrate proper wrist movement and pencil grip for cartoon character creation. Once we're properly warmed up we'll go the the next page in our sketchbooks to begin drawing our character. With the warm-ups done, like the circle drawing exercises, our step-by-step lesson will begin as I play and pause every five minutes or so to see the class progress. By the end of class, we'll go over homework for the next class. Meeting 2 - Inking a Cartoon Boy: In the next class, we'll begin by going over homework and any questions, the artists have followed by more exercises to warm-up with. This time, they'll be done using our black magic marker. This is to get used to capturing the fluidity of the wrist we used for sketching that we'll do for inking as well. This will be followed by inking our boy cartoon. I'll play my video lesson, breaking it up into 5 minute increments, in order to see everyone's progressing. At this point the video will demonstrate the correct hold and pressure of the marker for different effects. By the end of class, we'll have sketched and inked our character!

Hey there!
I'm Mr. Romero, or Mr. R if that’s easier for you! Nice to meet you!
I'm super excited to bring my background in education, design and teaching to our classes where we'll learn things like English, and art together!
Back when I was teaching in public school, I helped students with Autism into mainstream classes like yours. I worked with kids from kindergarten to high school. On the side, I also helped kids from other countries learn English and Spanish.
I've also been drawing at Disney for 7 whole years! You can usually find me making funny pictures near the Magic Kingdom at the Contemporary Resort. Sometimes I even draw at fairs and local events. Also, I've designed logos and mascots for small businesses.
I totally believe I can help each of you discover your inner artist! Whether it's by helping you get even better at stuff you already rock at or encouraging you to try new things. I know because I've been there too!
Oh, and did I mention I'm crazy about my cats, Azrael and Rhaenyra? I used to be more of a dog person, but with all my traveling I used to do for work, I've come to love their independent spirits. Now that I'm working from home more, having them around makes it even better!
Can't wait to get to know you all better and help you reach your goals on our learning adventure! I'm excited to be a part of your lives and help you learn and grow. Let's have a blast learning together!
