As an elementary classroom/ special education teacher, teaching the informative writing unit is a good way to introduce students to nonfiction text structures. The students are able to read than write about wild animals and share the new information they have learned through writing. This builds a sense of awareness of the nonfiction text structures. This unit of study helps the young writers develop their informative writing skills and confidence in writing. I have seen students achieve success, build confidence, and growth with writing informational texts and using strategies in writing.
