Why are stop signs red? Why does the Joker wear green and purple? All around us, in business and popular culture, artists are making conscious color choices in their designs. In this class, we will explore color theory from the point of view of artists trying to get better at their craft; to just pick colors, but to wisely choose them! This class is a live audio-visual presentation, throughout which the teacher will ask open-ended questions that the students will be able to discuss with one another. By the end, they will build a "color-vocabulary" that will allow them to create and talk about art with color more effectively.
Metas de aprendizaje
1. Color Science: Why humans see some colors more easily than others.
2. Color History: What have colors been used to represent in the past? How does that affect art we make now?
3. Color Meaning: All colors are associated with not just feeling (anger, joy, etc.) but also specific ideas. We explore how and why.
4. Color Use: Demonstrations showing just how much choosing the right (or wrong) color can make a work of art look completely different.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I studied color theory extensively during my time at the Maryland Institute College of Art, and originally taught this class in person as part of the process of getting my teacher certification in art. I've adapted the class to work in an online medium, and look forward to sharing my knowledge with more students.
