I use a systematic phonics approach with Linda Mood Bell LiPS strategies to build a strong understanding in letter and sound formation. Strategies include development of oral, visual, and auditory senses to enable learners to be able to identify letters, sounds, syllables, and words. It also includes reading, writing and spelling practice as one is related to the other. I help learners by breaking down learning to read into concrete skills. These include connecting letters to sounds and blending sounds into words. Learners master one skill before moving on to the next. The class will be interactive and supportive of all needs. Lessons include a mix of direct instruction and the use of interactive activities using a white board, PowerPoint, games like bingo and movement activities as we move through the lesson. Leraners will need a white board/marker or paper/ pencil to also participate in the writing. 1. Each class will start with a fun warm up to enable the learners to feel relaxed. 2. Teacher will provide input and model the key sound/s. 3. Learners will practice through various activities. 4. Learners will recap what is learnt through an open-ended activity to allow learners to show their level of understanding, building each week. Again, each skill must be mastered before moving onto the next. Areas targeting are: spelling, pronunciation/reading/decoding (how to pronounce and read new words), fluency, and comprehension.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hi! My name is Amy Murphy, and I use a systematic multi-sensory approach that allow learners to discover and label the oral motor movements, or feeling using their facial muscles, of each letter and sound. Learners can then verify the identity and sequence of sounds in words, establishing phonemic awareness and bring reading, writing, and spelling together.
I believe, passionately, each and every child and adult can be taught to read, comprehend, and spell to their fullest potential. I create an inclusive learning environment, with a variety of activities to reinforce what is being learned in order to create access for different learning styles. I have been an educator for the past 17 years and have tried a lot of different phonics programs. I have found this multi-sensory approach, which includes feeling, really helps to open up a whole world for learners.
I highly encourage reading to animals, if you have a pet, or a stuffed animal. They never criticize and love the attention! If you don't have either, check with your local library or shelter, sometimes they offer fun reading to animal programs. My cat Jennie B enjoys stories about other cats and their adventures and demands to be read to weekly!
