Experiencia de clase

In this two-week course, students will be taught how to write a nonfiction paragraph. Students will be using the "TDEC" writing strategy to write their paragraph. The TDEC strategy includes the elements that need to be included in a nonfiction paragraph.

What is TDEC?
T - Topic
*Write a sentence introducing the topic.

D - Detail
*Give a reason, DETAIL, or fact about your topic.

E - Explain
*Explain your reason, detail, or fact about your topic.

C - Conclusion
*Write a conclusion sentence that retells your topic sentence.

This course will be structured as so:
Week 1: This class will include a brief introduction activity. Following this activity, students will learn what TDEC stands for along with how and why we use it to write our paragraphs. Students will learn what "linking words" are and how we can use them in our paragraphs as well as our conclusion sentences. We will practice by reading short nonfiction paragraphs and identifying each sentence and which part of TDEC is included. For homework, students will need to conduct research and collect facts about a topic of their choice (animal, food, weather, etc.). Students will use their research to write a TDEC paragraph in the following class.

Week 2: Students will recall what TDEC is along with examples of "linking words." For homework, students will have already researched a topic. Students will use most of the class time to write their paragraphs using their research that was previously collected. Towards the end of the lesson, students will be able to share their TDEC paragraph (not mandatory).

Learners will get to collaborate with myself, as well as other students in the class. Student opportunity will be provided throughout the duration of this class. My teaching style allows my classes to be "student-driven" in order for my learners to explore and think about what he or she notices. Learners will be able to interact through slides and positive discussions.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Literacy. I have been teaching in New York's public schools for several years now. My experience has allowed me to present my expertise when it comes to teaching English Language Arts topics.
I am a fourth grade teacher in New York and much of our English Language Arts curriculum allows us to incorporate writing in correlation with our reading genres. Writer's Workshop is modeled throughout all of our writing lessons. I am familiar with the writing process and what is required of each student to be the best writers they can possibly be.
