Experiencia de clase

This fun class will teach Star Wars fans how to draw the world of Star Wars and more, all in a fun, relaxed environment. Mike Lyman is the teacher and owns movie-accurate Star Wars costumes with which he participates in, and organizes Star Wars-themed events and has been a member of the 501st Legion, a global Star Wars costuming organization, for ten years. Students will learn how to draw the ships, droids and characters of the Star Wars universe while learning trivia and interesting facts about the movies, and how they were made. The emphasis is on self-acceptance and nurturing the creative spirit. There is no pressure to keep up with other students; everyone learns at their own pace. All that is required is a sketchbook, drawing pencils, and a desire to defend the galaxy. Students learn to improve their drawing confidence while having fun at the same time.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn to draw complicated objects (such as Imperial Star Destroyers and droids) by focusing on the simple shapes first, removing the "I-can't-do-it" barriers, while learning to relax while they draw. Emphasis is on "training" the drawing hand to help students draw what they see, improving confidence and hand-eye coordination, Sketching techniques and inking are also covered.

Lista de útiles escolares
All students should have a relatively good quality sketchbook, drawing pencils (the #2B or #4B drawing pencils are best for sketching and drawing), and an artists' eraser, preferably one of the grey putty-like erasers sold at art supply stores. Students wishing to learn how to use charcoal pencils should have at least one or two, along with the paper stumps used in charcoal sketching. Students are also encouraged to use their own favorite drawing tools. For students who wish to draw digitally, a computer tablet with the preferred drawing app is suggested.

Perfil
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Mike Lyman is a lifelong artist and art instructor with a Bachelors degree in photography and graphic design, and his first graphic novel, Dark Office, has recently been published on Amazon's Comixology platform, with another one in the works. He has taught teens how to draw in summer camps, craft schools and art centers in New York, Vermont, and most recently Florida. He teaches home-schooled students at online educational co-ops, and has provided art therapy to veterans to help them overcome the traumas of post traumatic stress disorder, and mentored incarcerated at-risk teens using the arts, teaching them how to process the emotional toxic waste their experiences have given them while helping build their self esteem. He also provides lessons in Adobe Photoshop and photography, and has created a successful online Intro To Photography course.

For ten years he has been a member of The 501st Legion, a global Star Wars costuming organization, and has organized a number of high-profile Star Wars-themed events, such as annual "invasions" of All Childrens Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, Star Wars Days at the Forum in Tampa (which have been broadcast live on national television), visits to VA hospitals top thank veterans for their service, and many more. He is both a sinister Imperial Officer as well as an Imperial Stormtrooper. What better Star Wars art teacher could there be than someone who is living the Star Wars life?
