In this interactive class, the students will follow along as we draw together. We will go over how to draw the different parts of the gumball machine and will use a circle template for the gumball holder. We will share our creations at the end of class! We will cover concepts such as, paper orientation, free hand vs. templates, overlapping shapes to create realistic space for the gumballs, negative space, and using line to create the illusion of 3 dimensions for the canister. All learners will receive an info sheet which will detail all the concepts and how we used them to make the gumball machine. Students can apply these ideas to future drawings!
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will improve their understanding of paper orientation and where to place the objects on the page. Students will learn the difference between using a template and free drawing. Learners will understand how to use overlapping to create gumballs behind and in front of one another, so that the gumballs sit realistically in the canister. Students will be introduced to the concept of negative space and how it can change the feel of the drawing. Finally, students will learn tips for drawing objects that look 3D.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
My name is Jennifer Schultz and I have twenty years of teaching experience. I have taught art in summer camps, after school programs, art centers and brick and mortar schools.
I have had the opportunity to work with students ages 4 through 14. My teaching philosophy is to meet the student where they are and to provide challenges through technique and critical thinking questions, so they can increase their understanding. I think art provides a great, hands on experience to other subjects (math, science, language arts, and social studies). I will be offering lots of how to draw classes, art technique, and art history (artists and movements).
I also love American music (jazz, blues, early rock) and would like to offer music appreciation classes on those topics.
I raised 3 puppies for Canine Companions for Independence and its was a blast!
I hope to see you soon in my class.
