Experiencia de clase

In this one-time class session, students will learn how to draw 3-D letters with One-Point Perspective and shading. They will follow along as I use a document camera to demonstrate skills as they complete each step on their own papers. We will create two drawings. One will be a practice page where students will try out each new step. The other will be a final drawing where students will apply the new skills.

We will begin with a step-by-step tutorial about how to draw capital block letters. This a fool-proof technique that can turn any font into a block letter, even cursive! Students will use their practice page first and then move to their final drawing as they are comfortable. They can write their name or any word of choice.

Next, we will learn One-Point Perspective. Students will learn a bit of art history and the origin of perspective drawing. They will also learn the vocabulary words: Shape, Form, Vanishing Point and Orthogonal Line.

Students will complete each step during the tutorial on their practice page. When they are comfortable, students will move to their final drawing and complete the same steps. This will be our longer independent practice time. During this time I will check on each student and make sure they are on the right track. Students can ask questions at any point and I will periodically ask students to show their work to the camera so that I can gauge progress.

Finally, we will learn a simple gradient shading technique to add depth to our drawings. We will consider where the light source would be placed and what shadows may occur in their 3D letterforms. Students will apply the skill to complete their final drawing.

**Due to High Demand** This class is also offered in a more in-depth 4-week FLEX class version:

Hello! My name is Emily Batson. It is nice to meet you!
I am an artist and visual arts teacher based outside of Charlotte, NC.

About Me:
I love art. I am married and have three young kids. We planted a big garden at our house this year, built a chicken coop, and are raising our first flock of chickens.
My favorite card game is.....Dutch Blitz.
My favorite food is.....a ripe mango.
My favorite activity is....hiking in the ADK mountains!

My Teaching Background:
I earned my Bachelors Degree in Art Education. I am a certified teacher for grades K-12.
I taught for 3 years in the classroom at the middle and high school levels. I taught in very diverse public schools and loved it! After starting a family, I transitioned to teaching online. I've been teaching online for 4 years now and also have experience training new online teachers.

About My Classes:
You can expect to learn a new fundamental art skill like drawing, painting, weaving, printmaking, or sculpting. We will walk through step-by-step tutorials, master the new skill by practicing together, and use that new skill to make a creative product.

I often incorporate art history and the Elements and Principles of Art into my lessons. By including vocabulary and discussion, I hope students grow to be more well-rounded, articulate, and skilled.
Your student should expect to be talking, showing their work, and sharing ideas with others. We will have fun and make beautiful artwork!

I hope that you will join me in the classroom. See you soon!
