They say first impressions are everything! The same can be said in our writing! In this one-time class, students will learn how to create a successful "hook" for their introductions, no matter the genre of writing. Through a guided PowerPoint and student practice, students will explore the eight ways to "hook" a reader's attention. This includes writing a hook with a strong question, a strong statement, stats and facts, a strong quotation, a contradictory statement, a connection to history, a connection to current events, and a personal anecdote. I will give real-time feedback to aid in their instruction and to help them edit and revise their work as we go.

Hi! I’m a young, energetic English teacher from Connecticut, USA who loves to get lost in words, whether that be in a juicy novel or my own writing! I have taught teenagers for fourteen years and I love working with them! I learn just as much from them as I hope they learn from me! I love British Literature and fantasy literature, and I also love to write an argumentative analysis or dive deep into the world of research! 
When I’m not lost in the English language, I’m an active person. I have been a "yogi" for twenty years and enjoy mindful exercise. When the weather allows, I'm usually lost in the woods, running, snowshoeing, camping, or hiking with my husband and dog. I ran competitively in high school, college, and beyond and strongly believe in keeping my body healthy.
With all that exercise comes some need for calories! Thus, I enjoy baking and have a side business, of which I bake for friends and family who place orders for cookies, cupcakes, and sweet treats. My current orders are filled for hot cocoa bombs! They are all the rage this winter!
