Tarea
1 hora por semana. Learners will be asked to research a high level discrimination or racial profiling case, write at least 10 sentences about the case and present to the class on week 3. (Anyone besides Travon Martin and George Floyd). Learners will also be given the opportunity to create their own protest sign. The homework assignment is optional.

With everything going on in the world right now, it is important learners understand what racism is all about and the role Black Lives Matter has in the current climate.
Week 1:  An interactive discussion with a Powerpoint presentation will define and discuss the history of Blacks, racism and introduce Black Lives Matter. The learners will be asked if they know of any friends or family who has experienced racism.  A discussion of the case of Trayvon Martin will be held 
Week 2: An interactive discussion with a Powerpoint presentation will present 5 of the 13 Guiding Principles of Blacks Lives Matter.  The principles to be discussed are:
a.  Restorative Justice
b.  Empathy
c.  Loving Engagement
d.  Diversity
e.  Unapologetically Black
The learners will be asked how they can show these principals or if they have any friends or family who have shown these principals.  The learners are not required to represent these principals. A discussion of the case of George Floyd will be held. 

Week 3:  An interactive discussion with a Powerpoint presentation will highlight the cases of Emmitt Till, Breonna Taylor and Aumad Arbery.
The learners will then present their research on other injustices and show the Black Lives Matter Protest signs they created for homework. This homework is optional.  Learners will only research and/or create signs if they choose to do so.  We will also discuss other ways to support the Black Lives Matter movement if interested.

Since this is a sensitive topic and the learners will be conducting research, it is important the parent helps guide the research to avoid graphic or sensitive content that may be too disturbing for your learner.

As a black person, who had a career in Human Resources, I am sensitive to discrimination issues in the workplace and have worked hard in my role to elevate as many minorities as I could.  I strive to encourage them and help them advance in their careers. The Black Lives Matters Movement has highlighted the need to be aware of social injustices and discrimination.
