Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. 9 - 12
Nivel Beginner - Advanced
While this class will be taught using English as a support language, all levels of students are welcome to attend!

In this class, students will practice French conversation and have fun together as we celebrate Halloween. Students should have at least 1 semester (or finishing up the first semester) of French, and students who have been studying for longer are also welcome! Students are welcome to wear any festive attire they might have, but it is not required.

NOTE: Upon receiving the welcome message after enrollment, there will be a pdf file with the breakout room questions. Students will need to have the pdf pulled up on their computer or printed out for class.

We will begin by introducing ourselves in French, and then as a group, we will play a Halloween "Would you rather" in French. I will ask for volunteers to read the questions, but no one will be required to, and if needed, I will ask the questions. I will give students time to look at the words as well for those who prefer to understand through the written language. Then, I'll ask students if there are any words they don't understand. Since this class will be multi-leveled, I will give other, more advanced students a chance to answer questions before I answer them. Once everyone understands, students will be able to answer on the mic or in the chat, whichever they're more comfortable with.

Then, students will get to go into breakout rooms.* I will sort students into rooms so that each group has a mix of levels. In the room, they'll get more communication time and will discuss questions pertaining to how they celebrate Halloween.

After the questions, we will have the rest of our class together in the main room. We will play Taboo in French using Halloween vocabulary (pumpkin, costume, candy, etc.) Students who wish to choose a word of their own can private-message me with it, and I will private-message the French word. Then, students will describe the word without saying the word. All students will be asked to use charade-like skills so that students with smaller vocabularies can still choose a word if they wish, and more advanced students will be asked to speak AND use actions so all students can help guess.

Finally, in any leftover time, we will share our Halloween costumes. Students can either have them on for the party, or they can show them to us separately. If a student doesn't have a costume they can share other Halloween decorations, or they can enjoy the other students' costumes.

*Breakout rooms are always monitored by me switching between rooms to make sure students are focused and to help when needed. If a certain group has too much trouble, and warnings aren't effective, I may separate students or end breakout rooms early and finish the questions altogether.

Masks are welcome as part of student costumes, however, masks should be removed for identification at the beginning of class in accordance with Outschool policies. Please note that costumes will be vetted by the educator to ensure that they met Outschool standards (secular, age-appropriate, etc.)

Perfil
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have been learning French for 7 years now, from French 1 - French 5 as well as 2 years of immersion French classes. I am conversationally fluent and at a B2 level. I tutored French immersion from May 2020 through August 2020 when the French immersion school near us closed for quarantine, and I've been teaching French through Outschool for almost two years now.

I took the French CLEP test a few years ago and got maybe 5 points away from a perfect score while testing out of and getting credit for all the French classes at my local community college. I also attended a 7-week summer immersion program through Middlebury College.

I also continue to take French lessons with native speakers, and I am working towards my Bachelors in French, which includes classes in advanced French immersion, French literature, and French education.

I also have my certification in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), the principles from which I apply to my French classes.
